Shipping a bassinet via media mail?

After looking at her other auctions, it appears that this seller primarily sells books. I would guess that the terms part of the auction is a copy and paste of something saved on her computer. And then was simply forgotten to change the shipping option. (At least I hope so)

I estimate that as much as 50% of all items sent via Media Mail do not actually qualify.

The post office doubly shot itself in the foot with the new Priority Mail rate structure. Much less Priority Mail use and much more illegal Media Mail use.

Barparts...I agree 100%. Things like this could easily get media mail eliminated by the Postal Service, leaving PP and PM as the only alternatives. Just out of curiosity, I wonder what would happen if the buyer purchased insurance and filed a claim because the bassinet was destroyed in transit? The Post Office would discover the scam after the fact. Would they honor the claim? Or would they bill the seller for the correct charges? I'm tempted to buy that thing and have a little fun.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

I sold someone some (4) Tiki's a couple of weeks ago. He wanted combined shipping and I told him $8.00 for ups was the cheapest. He said what about media rate? I told him I can't send them media rate because they aren't media. 3 days later he emailed me back and asked the same question - did you look up a media rate quote for me? He's a seller and also sells Tiki's. He charges $7.00 for shipping. So I emailed him back and asked if that was for media rate. He paid the UPS rate that next day - I just don't get some people. You'd think a seller would know better.....

People will seek the lowest cost, especially when there is a very large monetary difference between Parcel Post/Priority and Media Mail. They will gamble on the chances that a package will ever get opened up for inspection or an insurance claim ever being denied.

That is pure, basic human nature.

Email the seller ... it is just an error on her part. She uses templates and just got the wrong one. She has been quoting parcel post rates to those who inquire. (And answering email such as mine). Sorry that I jumped to comclusions. There are lots of people out there who take advantage but this lady is not one of them.

Have a great Labor Day!
