Here's the story: I sell pocket knives on eBay. I sold a William Henry knife (which is considered the Mercedes of pocket knives) and the buyer emailed me after receiving it to let me know there was a defect in the knife handle. Being that this is a fairly expensive pocket knife, I told the buyer to ship it back and I'd take a look. I get the knife back and sure enough there's a small crack in the wood that could only have come from the factory. I refund his money (since I only had the one and waited nearly 9 months to get it from William Henry) and ship the knife off to William Henry to have the handle replaced under warranty. My question is this: is it possible to request a refund without filing a NPB? If it is, eBay sure doesn't make it very obvious.

In this case, file a NPB and choose "High bidder paid for item and returned it. You issued a refund to bidder." as the reason. This will allow you to receive you FVF credit immediately and does not count againt the buyer.

Thanks BananaSpider. I knew there had to be a way to do it without hurting the bidder. I wish they'd show that in their help. I guess eBay would just prefer we eat the fees!
