I buy a lot of used stereo equipment and it seems that almost half of the cassette decks I buy have a common problem: when the power is turned on, the capstand automatically starts spinning and it doesn't stop until the power is turned off. All of the other functions seem to work ok except for the capstand. Anyone have an idea what the problem is?

Thanks Kiara for the link!! It looks like that is the way they are supposed to operate and so there isn't a problem with these cassette decks afterall. I was planning to sell 3 cassette decks (worth $50 each) in one lot for $25 as parts. That little bit of info you provided will mean an extra $125 for me. I owe you one!
