(not rewardman on eBay)...

Ok, I'm wondering if I'm alone here... recently I got a "warning" from eBay about keyword spamming when I had a line in my description about "See my other auctions for blah-blah, blah-blah"... when blah-blah was a kinda-sorta-similar-but-not exactly same category type of item.

They told me it was "keyword spamming". I said OK, I'll take that line out.
Unfortunately then, a week later I re-listed that auction and totally forgot to take that line out of the description on a quick and dirty "relist".

They nailed me and canceled the auction.

Now, I wrote them a nice long message about how I didn't think they enforced their policies universally, and how I am disappointed with that. And I pointed them to two other "PowerSellers" who had obvious violations, the same as mine.

eBay customer support totally ignored my message and sent me the "canned" response which said nothing.

I proceeded to file two separate mails about the violations (through their support page link)... and I notice the sellers in both cases haven't edited their auctions. The apparent "keyword spamming" is still there.

I'm sorry but there are HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of auctions where sellers say something like: "see my other auctions for MORE glassware, underware, hardware, and other wares".

Opinions?

Why do they have rules if they aren't willing to enforce them when I report people. Or are PowerSellers exempt, AGAIN ?!

Violations:
Item# 1787432266
Item# 733214151

Actually it's against AW rules to put in the item number or links to a specific auction. Maybe someone will turn you in for that to . HA!

tomyou -- if you don't have anything good to say... why do you say anything at all?

I actually saw links posted in another "police auctions" post today... so I figured it was OK here.

It's so nice to live in a society with so many rules that I don't have time to read and remember.

rewardman there is so much of that on eBay it's a wonder honest sellers sell anything.
You have a delema and there is someone out their watching your auctions and turning you in. I wonder if eBay when they worn you they think it is retalation when you turn someone else in and then they don't do anything. It's a hard game to figure out but I would just keep listing but remember to take that sentence out. Good Luck

Many people do the "Please check out my other auctions to combine on shipping". Why don't you try that? (providing you will combine shipping, that is). I didn't know it was against AW rules to post auctions either (obviously since I do it quite often)

the fact that you don't read and remember the rules is why you get your auctions booted and the fact that you saw another auction noted on hear seemed to make it ok just proves the point you don't bother with rules at all and then you amazingly get upset when things don't go your way. so I guess just get used to being "miffed" because you'll continue to get auctios pulled now that you have been flagged if you don't follow the rules. Have a great day. there I said something good !

Hi rewardman,
I don’t mind a little spam when it showing me the other auctions a seller has running. I don’t have a problem wit a seller giving me hints on how this item can be used with other things ( i.e. This will fix your X, XX & XXX as well)
It’s the out & out, in your face, Keyword spamming that ticks me off.
I was searching for some things on eBay this morning and kept pulling up the same auctions over & over... I decided to check their description. I found over 3,000 keywords!
I’m starting a new thread called: “A New eBay Game for Rainy Days”
I hope you’ll find it fun and not take it personal
I really don’t mind your type of “violation”

I hate keyword spamming! As a seller, I believe it takes people away from my auctions by burying them among totally unrelated items. By the time the potential bidder gets to my things, they are either tired of all the unrelated items being there or something they didn't think they wanted and didn't search for, catches their eye. Another bidder bites the dust.

As a buyer, I hate weeding through things I have absolutely no interest in and didn't do a search on. When I'm looking for an Art Deco Necklace, I don't want to have to scroll down through Ebay CD's, jeans, etc. If I wanted those things, I'd do a search on those things. I won't bid on something that contains obvious keyword spamming.

At the same time I am not the Ebay police and have far too many other things to do besides police other people's auctions. I'm more concerned with my own and staying within the rules.

I wonder - exactly how many people do you think actually read Ebay's TOS? Or, do most of them quickly click on "I Agree", move on and then cry the blues when they get warning letters about violating Ebay's TOS? Perhaps, after clicking on "I Agree" Ebay should popup some questions relating to it. If you answer correctly, you're in. If not - go back and read the TOS!

when blah-blah was a kinda-sorta-similar-but-not exactly same category type of item.

If everyone does that we wouldn't be able to find anything in a search.

Quit using excuses like everyone else is doing it or you totally forgot.

see my other auctions for MORE glassware, underware, hardware, and other wares

Opinions? I think underwear is spelled wrong. Unless it's a chastity belt, then would it be spelled underware?

In my description I will only make references to my other identical auctions. i.e. While your here please check my other auctions for more jewlery pieces. I never make mention to anything that isn't in this description. Then in my TOS I say Jewelry auctions can be combined for better postage.

I am a little naive about this keyword spamming. I rarely buy anything on eBay, so I haven't a clue as to what constitutes keyword spamming. Is it illegal put in your TOS, the phrase "please check my other auctions"?

EBAY IS BECOMING A CONTROLLED DICTATORED MONOPOLY WHERE THEY LET WHOEVER THEY LIKE DO/SPAM WHATEVER AND THE LITTLE GUYS SUFFER AND NOT GET AN COMPETITIVE EDGE. IF THERE WAS ANOTHER AUCTION CO. I COULD AS WELL IN I'D LEAVE
