I have received three emails in the last week wanting me to follow a link to an official looking Ebay site to update my seller's information. I went there the first time, but they wanted me to enter my screen name, password, and credit card information. I figured it must be a fraud. Today, I received the following email:

Subj: Please verify your account
Date: 11/19/02 9:08:13 PM Central Standard Time
From: [email protected]
To: [email protected]
Sent from the Internet (Details)

We regret to inform you that your eBay account has been suspected as a
frauded account. This could be caused by a
number of factors such as a high number of complaints from other eBay
users. In order to keep your eBay account active
we ask you to verify your account. If you do not verify your eBay account
with 4 days of receiving this email we will be
forced to shut down your account and close all active auctions. To verify
your eBay account please go to
http://209.202.218.12/nb/ebay_verify/verify.html and complete the form.
Thank you for choosing eBay.

I have never even had any negative feedback, so I really don't think this is legit. Has anyone else been receiving these emails?

Sorry, if this is an already discussed topic. I haven't been on the message board in ages. Thanks in advance for any help.

Never, Never, NEVER believe these email messages are true. The BEST way to tell if it is legit or not is to see where they want you to go, in this case:

Don't you think that if ebay wanted you to confirm info (which they don't ever do anyway) they would send you to www.ebay.com?

Even if I got an email that directed me to www.ebay.com I would contact them and ask what is going on first.

You've got to remain skeptical about EVERYTHING online - It is the best way to stay safe. I get email all the time from people wanting my opinion of what they have, and they send me attachments. I simply write back to them that it is my policy that I never open an attachment from an unsolicted email.

I got one today, saying my account was in jeopardy due to incorrect or missing information? And that my selling and bidding ability would be ended unless I updated the info with the link.

I went to the link in the email.... it asked for my ebay ID, password, drivers license number, mothers maiden name, credit card number, exp. date and THE PIN NUMBER for an ATM plus a whole lot more.

I do not think ebay would ask for my password, let alone my ATM PIN NUMBER.

ahc3 gave you the best advise. Trust noone when it comes to internet security. Especially unsolicited email.
