"eBay grew to fame on the backs of mom-and-pop sales, but corporate giants like IBM and Home Depot are becoming a big part of its business. That's raised some concern among those who think that big business online could overshadow smaller sellers."

It could swing the other way and those backs of mom-and-pop sellers may very well undersell HP and make them uneffective in their ebay selling gambit.

The journalists seem to not realize that most final prices on ebay are constantly going downward except for very rare collectibles. You might not notice it if you aren't at ebay on a steady basis for an extended period of time.

The only thing is that HP and others are selling overstocked and distressed items and selling them for a loss is what they are doing in any event. They believe that selling these items on eBay will result in less of a loss and quicker turn arounds.
