This may have been covered here but I didn't happen to see it. Went to UPS this AM and didn't recognize the place. Computers all over the place and many people waiting to be shown what to do. What a bottlenck. No more filling out the form by hand, now you enter all info into their computer as the 1st step. Then go stand in line for weighing, etc. Problem is, not everyone knows how to type or has ever handled a mouse. There were people (especially the elderly) leaving with a terrified look on their face. Change is tough for some. Seems like they could have timed this a little better. Just before Xmas rush wouldn't have been my choice.

Why not open a online account, print your own labels at home & walk in to the customer counter counter, throw the packages on the counter & leave?

Where are you? Sounds like Podunk Junction. We have had this system for over a year. This not a huge meropolis, about 120,000 total population. I agree with you that it is a pain in the XXX. Thats another reason I use FedEx. I fill out a form put the bar codes on the box & drop it off at the FedEx Center which is about a half mile away. They bill me every 2 weeks & I pay them once a month. Works great for me.

Not sure about the computer thing at the UPS location. Personally I have used online daily pickup for quite some time and cannot be happier. The ease of use of the software and free shipping lables which are printed out on the printer that they provided is great. And using the online venue is even cheaper that regular daily pickup.

This is news to me. The two UPS locations I frequent service a metro area of 400,000 and you still fill out the little forms to ship. More than half of the clerks that work at either location are part time and can bearly work the cash register to calculate shipping charges. I cannot imagine any of them instructing customers on how to use a computer. I guess it's time to get an account with them.

How much does it cost to open an on-line account? I had been shipping my packages from work and paying work for my UPS charges. They have decided not to let us do that anymore but I am spoiled with not waiting in lines and filling out forms. So, I am interested in an on-line account. What all is involved? Thanks.

The online account is free, I think (we have daily pick-up, since we're 30 miles from the UPS processing center - and there is a weekly charge for that). We haven't had a lot of luck filing for insurance claims online, but everything else we do online at the UPS website or through the UPS internet connected software, which is how you process the day's shipments. (The software's on a CD they send you, and you install on your computer.)
Labels that run though a laser or bubble jet printer are free, you can just order them online, and they're delivered by UPS. And the only other thing you need is a scale and a tape measure!
