Furniture people I need your help.

I have a family Dining room set of JB Van Sciver furniture and I want to auction it off. Unfortunantly I have no real idea what it is worth. I have plenty of pictures but I don't want to jam up the board if no one can help.

Please let me know if any of you "dealers" out there can help me with an approximate value.

I can't help; wish I could! Maybe if we keep bumping this up to the top. . . .

Have you posted on one of the message boards?

Roadsmith, which message boards are you talking about? This is the only one I normally watch.

Could be that no one has heard of this maker. Why not post a link to a picture, or at least give some information as to age and style?

What state are you in?

Most likely you will need to sell this with pickup by buyer, as unless it is extremely desirable, shipping would kill the sale for most buyers.

If you go to Google (www.google.com)and type in JB Van Sciver furniture you will get lots of information. This furniture may be valuable - to collectors or to someone who just loves fine furniture, as this company made reproductions, as well as inexpensive copies. Good luck

Van Sciver furniture was quality furniture made in the late 19th, early 20th century. If you do an internet search on google.com you'll not only find information on it, you'll find a picture of their factory that was taken in the 1920s. The last time we had a piece of Van Sciver furniture on eBay it sold for a decent amount (not huge ... it's not exactly major stuff but still quality) to a MEMBER OF THE VAN SCIVER FAMILY!

Good luck with it.

ANY idea as to the age? Van Sciver was still in business until the early 70s here in the Phila. area. Do you know what kind of wood it is? or what style? Give us something to go on.....If it is an early set (1920s-even through the 50s) they tend to be traditional in style and very desirable, a set can go high ( I've seen 1940s reproduction Duncan Phyfe?? style sets go for $2000.00+ in an auction house). The later sets from the 60s-70s ( such as made from fruitwood, or mediteranean in style) you pretty much have to sell for nothing or Donate to anyone who will pick it up.

These are the links to a few of the pictures. The set is from the fifties to the best of my knowledge and it is still in the Philadelphia area! Turnersville, NJ to be exact.

Any help with the images below would be great but they are pretty big.

Thanks for the help!

It's a pretty set, It looks like it is in very good condition. It dates to the 1940s or early 50s. Did you have a server/ buffet also at one time? Usually these sets came with 3 pieces: the table ( and chairs), china cabinet and server/buffet. The china cabinet is missing the center finial (on top), maybe you have it?. How long does the table extend to?

Check out some of these links, there are some message boards there that you can check out as far as value.

The chairs are the only thing that needs a little work. We never had the server/buffet. You mentioned the center Finial and I know what you are talking about but I also checked the cabinet and there is no place to put the finial you are talking about.

I have to get the mesurements for you, but it also has four leafs!

I appreciate all the google links, I have followed them all myself, but with no real success as to a value on the set.
