Get one that reads multiple types of cards.

I have a smart media reader & it works great. Had it for 8 months. If I were to buy a new reader I would get the "Dazzle" reader. It will read all the media cards. They are about $40.00 at walyworld (Wal Mart)

Thanks for the great information!!!

Gateway has the 6 in 1 Dazzle with a $20.00 rebate and free shipping.

I liked the fact that you can send pictures to a CD for playback on a DVD. Since I don't have a cdrw, that helps with the storage space on my computer, I hate to delete my auction photos.

I have a SanDisk reader from about a year ago. It only does Compact Flash, but it's great. It doesn't need drivers on Windows or Mac systems- truly plug-n-play.

I use it for transferring stuff between my Macs and PCs. It's a total no-brainer- just plug it in and the system seems it as a huge floppy drive.

It was around $30, but that was last year, I assume they're less now.

I just bought a PNY brand from Best Buy for 19.95. It's a compact flash card reader for USB applications. Works great.

Roadsmith,

A card reader is a small device that allows you to take the memory card form your digital camera and insert it into the card reader to load your images onto your computer. The card reader is attached to your computer with a Universial Serial Bus cable, a USB cable.

I Love my Dazzle Card reader! Go for it. $20.00 is a great buy. I find it much less of a hassle than connecting my camera and using the usually user unfriendly software provided.

I have created a shortcut on my desktop to the drive Icon created by the Dazzle.
Then I created a folder I wanted the unedited pictures to be sent to and created a shortcut for that. I double click both shortcuts, select all the picture files and drag them into the unedited photo folder and they are loaded. So much easier than the software provided with my camera.

Good Luck.

card readers that can read 6 different formats are only a few bucks more than those that can only read one ($25 vs $20). You never know when a friend will bring over their camera or you switch to a different camera. Spend the extra five bucks and know that you've covered all bases.

The Dazzle Card Reader reads all six memory cards/sticks now in use. I believe glassgrl is right that it is available or at least was, cause I saw the add, at Gateway for $20.00. Unfortunately I paid twice that but I still think it was worth it.
