After a long rest, I started selling on ebay again.

My terms are pretty simple. Pay me on time. I don't ship outside the U.S. If you pay using paypal or bidpay, I ship to the confirmed address.

In the past 4 days, I have gotten 7 nasty emails from bidders that want me to ship somewhere other than their confirmed address. In the past month a total of 16 gripes.

One bidder has very high feedback (over 400), but has done chargebacks on other sellers that did not ship to his confirmed address. Another seller emailed me and told me that she knew of 12 sellers that he had done it to.

Most of the other complainers have feedback under 50.

Is it odd for sellers to only ship to confirmed addresses?

All of the bidders swear that they have never encountered this before. I would think sellers would be a little more careful about fraud.

I don't ship to an unconfirmed address anything I wouldn't want to take a loss on.

Hi
This also happens alot to me, and what i do is i contact my buyer and ask him which address does he want it shipped to. Yes, i know what you all are going to say......but most of the times when you sign up for paypal or Bidpay, they want the address that the credit card is billed to, which is usually the home address.
But lots of my buyers what the items shipped to there work address, so i do as they ask.
I have been doing this for 5 years now, and it always has worked well for me.
Lets hope it continues.
But I can understand what your saying, but it is difficult not being a little flexable when you are dealing with many different types of minds.
Most of the times it dosen't matter what you put in your auction listing, they just don't read it all. But at least you are covered by saying,,,,,,,,its listed in the auction listing and that is what they have to follow when they place a bid on your auction. They dont like what your saying, then its simple,,,,,,,just don't place a bid.
But no, they will bid anyway and cause you heartach.
I hope things smooth out for you with the coming holidays, but dont be surprised if it gets worse.
Just my thoughts!!!!!!!!!

IT'S CHRISTMAS!! Do you want a package coming to YOUR house that your loved one can see? No! So you ship it somewhere else! Or, you're going to be out of town on the holidays and you want it shipped to where you're going!

Give them a break!

Yes, it is Christmas. So what? I, like many others don't celebrate. There is always a holiday going on somewhere. Christmas is also the time of the year when fraud skyrockets. I want my loved ones to be able to eat! They can't do that if I lose money due to chargebacks!

Give me a break and don't bid!

But lots of my buyers what the items shipped to there work address, so i do as they ask. I have been doing this for 5 years now, and it always has worked well for me

I used to do it occasionally with my merchant account. Only with regulars though. I now notice that many online stores will only ship to the billing address, especially when electronics are involved.

edited 'caus I am crazy.

I have never denied a payment from an uncomfirmed address. What I do is have my default set so that I have to manually accept them. Before I do, I check to see how long they have been paypal members and how many payments they have made!

I'm surprised at how many people have unconfirmed addy's and have been members for over 2 years and have 100's of payments made.

I suppose it's a gamble but I also accept from bidders who have a zero rating and have only been members for a few days~after all, it takes a while to get confirmed.

Knock on my keyboard, I've never had an issue with any payments!

On the other hand, I wouldn't accept a personal check from the President.

I bet people think I'm nuts but I guess it just boils down to my gullibility (sp?)! Never a problem yet...

I think many of those pay via e-check. I will ship anywhere they want if they pay with an e-check.

I will ship to another address...I have even gift wrapped an item for his mother's birthday and mailed it directly to her...he emailed with a thank you and so did she after the item arrived.

if the message in the paypal payment asks me to ship to another address I have no problem with that.

I have never had a chargeback but anything can happen.

It is the sellers preference on this one.

shop4shoes -

Be careful, as echecks can also be reversed. I found that out the hard way, almost 2 months after I thought I had the money in my pocket!

Hi
I have shopped on many web sites and after filling out the Billing Information, they ask if shipping address is different from billing address please fill enter it here.

Well, that is just one example, but this even happens when I call in an order from a catalog, they also ask, " Is the item going to a different address?", They have no problem sending it anywhere you like.

We as Sellers also need to make shopping for our buyers as easy and smooth as possible. So it would be a suggestion for you to consider, it would save you lots of angry emails.

I will ship to an unconfirmed address only if they purchase insurance. Then if they complain it does not arrive they can take it up with the PO.

shop4shoes - Since you are given this option, it's obviously your choice. You are at risk when doing so, as you're aware.

We always shipped to uncomfirmed address and to third parties until one said it didn't arrive. Since then, we've now added in our TOS just want Merrie does.

"We're happy to ship to any US address you request, if you're willing to insure your package."

Someone attempted that with me a few years ago. I filed a police report for fraud. The package had her signature, it was delivered to the address on file in the phone book and she wrote to tell me how much she liked the shoes. The funds were put back into my account quickly. When I talked to her bank, before filing the report, I got the impression that she had done it many times before.

In my original post, I mention a high feedback ebayer that likes to initiate chargebacks. Why should I make it smooth and easy for him, or anyone, to rip me off.

I have had one of my merchant accounts for over 4 years. I have set a record with them. I have NEVER had a sucessful chargeback. I ship to the name and address on file and I use some sort of signature confirmation. Insurance means nothing when someone initiates a chargeback. Sometimes buyers will not cooperate with the insurer. The card companies don't care if you insured it or not. All they want is "acceptable" proof that the cardholder got the package. Delivery confirmation is not acceptable proof.

I read stories all the time about sellers getting stiffed on chargebacks through both paypal and their own merchant accounts. It usually involves shipping to somewhere other than the billing address.

What option are you referring to?

You should not! Just because this person is a seller means nothing. Seems they found a way of getting free goods to resell.

Sorry...I wasn't more clear. I meant that you have the choice, the right to make that decision, to only ship to verified addresses. You said you have stated in your TOS and if they bid they are agreeing to accept your terms. If they complain after they've bid and won...let them complain. You were upfront with them. Just come here to vent when you need to...we've all been through the same thing.

Last night I got an email from a bidder that wanted me to ship to an unconfirmed address.

He wrote: Don't expect me to get confirmed to accomodate you.

I wrote back: Don't expect me to change my terms to accomodate you.

I suspect he will be suspended soon. He already has 3 negs for not paying. I will file my NPB alert and move on.

I've not had a problem yet shipping to an unconfirmed addy. Maybe I'm just whistling through the graveyard.

godfatherstoys- Neither have I.

Maybe eventually I'll get ripped off, but the way I figure it, I've made plenty off the unconfirmed payments I did accept- if I do someday get ripped off once or twice, it's still profitable to accept unconfirmed payments.

And profit really is the bottom line, yes?

You wouldn't take a personal check from the President? I wouldn't trust that deserter to any position of responsibility. Much less take a check from him.

I buy and sell on Ebay. At this time of the year, mailbox theft in my neighborhood is HIGH. I request my items be sent to my work address. In the inner city, you cannot expect a package to sit on your porch for 8 hours and still be there when you arrive home. I'd be sunk if people didn't ship to my work address.

Too true. I have someone trying to pull that on me now. I've already shipped the item, of course. I told her her only recourse to avoid fraud charges and eBay sanctions* is to overnight the payment to me today.

Got a note back full of excuses. Wotta surprise. I'm sure not expecting to get that overnight letter.

*Don't forget, if you get a chargeback or an eCheck is reversed, you can file for Non-Paying Bidder and you definitely SHOULD.

I send to unconfirmed address but before I do I always write the buyer and ask. I have never had a problem. I think over 50% that joined paypal have an unconfirmed address. I would rather send a package to their work than have it sit on their doorstep for someone to steal...

Paypal=Ebay.

The reply is in response to an issue tying the two together.

My two cents rub together as well as anyone else's.

I get a signature for everything, so there is no leaving on the porch.

In my neighborhood things were left on the porch or behind bushes until...MY CAT took a dislike to the UPS guy. He started peeing on everything the guy touched. My neighbors thought it was funny until he "dedicated" some of their packages.

We have a new UPS guy and the cat hasn't given him any problems...YET!
