Can anyone tell me if there is a way to add info to an existing auction with a bid on it? I added a picture but can I add any words.

Go to the site map on ebay.

http://pages.ebay.com/sitemap.html

Under Services, Buying and Selling you will see "Add to my item description".

If the auction doesn't end within 12 hrs you should be able to do it.

kiara: No NO!! Unless you can get the bidder to retract the bid, you cannot alter the TOS or pictures.

Sanmar: Kiara's right! I've done this myself. You can add, but you can't go into the body of the description to do it. The only thing is, the information you add is in a little sentence or paragraph at the very bottom of the auction and the prospective buyers may not even notice it. Still, worth doing, I think.

When I use to add info to an auction I use to just add a sentence or two and you could hardly see and you just knew that many viewers may miss it.
I next tried adding some attention grabbers like asterisks above and below the added sentences. A little better but still poor.

Then I saw that html was allowed and I added colored backgrounds and jacked up font sizes and bold sentences. Now the added stuff is VERY noticeable and can not be ignored.

Sample coding below
Choose any color or font size
If you add that html or similar you get an added description that won't be ignored.

<CENTER><TABLE BORDER=2 WIDTH=100% CELLSPACING=5 CELLPADDING=8 BGCOLOR=cyan><TR><TD><FONT SIZE=+2>

blah blah blah added description

Hi sanmar - Maybe the confusion is between 'revising' the auction description and 'adding to' the auction description. They are two different puppies.

When you revise an auction the change is made to the original description itself. That cannot be done if an item has a bid.

When you add information to an auction it is not made in the description area, but is added as a codicil, under either the pic or the description.

Just be aware that if a bidder has placed a bid and you 'add to' your auction anyone who has placed a bid before your addition may have a right to change their mind. I've always emailed any bidder and made them aware of this change IF it might affect their decision to bid. For example if you're just adding something that will enhance your item it probably won't present a problem. But adding something like "I just noticed this has a crack" most definately will.

One important note that some sellers don't know: If your item has a bid/bids, and you "Add to your item description" [which appears at bottom of page], any wording that you add down there, does NOT get entered into the ebay 'search' function ... example: if you're auction is for an 'OLD CANDY CONTAINER', and it has bids, then you find out it's actually a rare early plain PEZ dispenser, and you add that info to the bottom of your listing, shoppers looking for "PEZ" within the title and descriptions, are NOT going to find your auction item. ... when we come across items that we list, and a knowledgeable collector emails additional important information about the item, we then opt to cancel the bids, end the auction, and rewrite it with the correct wording. ...
