What's wrong with it?

Beer cans have been collectible for as long as I can remember. Some *DO* in fact sell for thousands.

Excuse Me!

What I meant Was:

Where will the bidding stop on this one.

The last big one as we all know went for $19,299.00

Yup, I agree. These are things to look for at flea markets and garage sales and hidden in barn rafters.

This type of reserve auction is the only reserve auction that I like to see. The seller is trying to determine that actual value of his item and has set a high reserve at a price that he is willing to take for his coveted gem of his collection.

OK, got it now. Not sure if this one will ever get as big a bid as that last. Will be hard to beat.

here's an idea...let start a gambling pool, to figure where this auction ends in price give or take $50....and winner take all...problem is how does one collect the winnings..........could be some nice bucks to be made here.....

One problem is that anyone can bid on the auction with a sleeper or fake account. Remember that ebay won't suspend an account until the feedback rating hits -4 and that account has been reported.

I would be interested in the opinions of others about this being a private auction. Why did he do it, and will it help or hurt his chances of getting the highest possible price? Also, how would YOU list this item if you happened to pick it up at a yard sale for a couple of bucks?

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

I didn't notice the private, but that may just bring in bigger bidders.
Not every one wants others to know what they are doing.

I picked up a bottle the other day,it may be rare it may not, I don't know.
I just listed it for what it was, if it's rare I hope the bidders will pick up on it!

It's been on for a day now and no bids so maybe it's nothing. We'll see.

Private auctions scare me, because of the possibility of some real shill bidding going on.

I don't think this will go as high but will be fun to watch.

If you often had to bid against the same collectors or dealers and they know your bdding habits, wouldn't you prefer a private auction? Obviously with this type of rare item that is going to happen.

I wouldn't bid in the private auction for a high dollar item. Even with this seller's good feedback. The seller could be in a bad financial jam and need to get the most for his auction. The private auction coupled with the reserve and featured plus option could mean he is trying to maximize his final price anyway he can ( no pun intended ) and that may include shill bidding.

If you just bid your maximim price what does it matter if there is shill bidding? It might come back and bite them if their shill wins.

That's true Quick. If you wanted to pay a maximum of $3,200 you could proxy bid that and be content with the results. The seller found out that you valued the can at $3,200 whether the reserve was met or not and that may be the goal of this auction --- to determine what bidders would actually give for his prize can.

Problem with Ebay is you never know what someone was willing to pay!
Say: You put in a proxy bid of 5,000.00 and this brings the bid to 2,000.00 at end of auction it only shows someone bid 2 not 5.
So you never know what anyone truly was willing to pay!

It also doesn't take into consideration of timing. Maybe at Christmas collectors aren't bidding on Rare cans, but after Christmas they will be, or visa versa.

I'm going to watch this one like the other big money can and print it out at the end as I did that one. They'll be my new magnet held "refrigerator art". Purpose being...Just maybe I can use them as incentive for my Son to get the 15 boxes of cans out of my life that I've been "hanging on" to for him for over 30 years. I've moved 4 times in that 30 years with those boxes and the next move I make will probably be to meet my maker, and I'm sure not taking them with me on that one.
