Someone did a Buy It Now on a piece of Westmoreland last week. They then paid me by PayPal without knowing the total for the shipping and insurance. They tacked on money for the S&I but it was $4.25 short of the actual shipping cost. The auction ended at 07:11:48 and the PayPay payment is logged at 07:12:36. They had paid me before I even knew the auction had ended. I email her and told her that she owed another $4.25, and since the purchase was all packed up and ready to go, as soon as I received the balance I would run it up to the post office. This was on the 20th. Still no word from the buyer. Should I just refund the money and relist? I don't feel I should have to make up the difference on the shipping costs especially since it is actual cost only. tooterville

Just refund. This will not cost you anything as you can use the refund button for 30 days. Tell them to resend the proper amount owing.

I agree with Trai's suggestion...refund the amount paid. Be sure to state 'why' you are doing so in your refund. In the event they paid and don't come back online, you're in the clear.

I've had buyers do that and that's exactly what I've done. If I don't have a new payment, after emailing with the correct total, then at the 7 day time period I file NPB. That ususally gets their attention.

This was not a problem for me until recently
when eBay began requiring that you list your
PayPal e-mail address in order to have the
PayPal payment option listed in your auction.
I delayed doing that since I knew what would
happen, and sure enough as soon as I listed
with that option set the incorrect EOA
payments started. I've always listed in the
body of the auction description that I take
PayPal payments, but they said that to be
included in the future "search for auctions
taking PayPal" planned feature I would have
to list the other way, so... They are right,
just refund the incorrect amount hope for
the best. No correct payment, then leave
Negative feedback and then NPB and FVF them.
You can't always leave feedback after NPB
and FVF (ie due to suspensions), so be
careful. Good luck!

In the check out box I put. "I will send you an email after I receive eBays EOA notice. Please wait for my instructions. If you wish to pay instantly by paypal click the logo at the end of the auction page but please remember to add the postage." I have had no problems. Of course you can modify that to include please remember to add S/H and insurance charges.
