I was watching Dateline NBC tonight and saw where they are looking for hidden treasures that you may have around your house. The story is here in case you have anything that you would like to submit a photo of.

http://www.msnbc.com/news/849101.asp

If they choose your item they will come to your house with the cameras rolling.

If you had a hidden treasure would you keep it or sell it?

I would sell it, don't want to leave anything for the kids to fight over.

I would definately sell it. I've seen whole families break apart over "stuff." My mother didn't speak to her brother or father for three years after my grandmother died all over the "stuff" left to her in the Will and never received. Yes, definately sell and take a long vacation to someplace warmer than Cleveland!

Washington Redskins coach George Allen said "The future is now". ( when the traded top draft picks for almost too old players )

Of course I would sell it. I only have one Child so there would be no fighting but to enjoy the harvest while I was still living would be great. Now all I have to do is find something. My mother went through the same thing that CBlev's mother did and you have to remember that the items my grandmother had were from the victorian era.

Just read the article, and now I will have to look. I know I have some old items but not worth what I think they are looking for.

Anyone going to try it???????

We don't have any hidden treasures; we know pretty much what everything is worth, having been in the antiques biz.

There is much too much of everything, as it turns out, so I am selling continually as well as running a lot of new jewelry auctions.

I've been amused to see in the last couple of _Antiques Roadshows_ we watched that the reactions of people have changed since the early days of the show. Used to be they would be thrilled and slightly awed to be before the camera, smiling and nodding as the expert told about their item. Now, their expression often turns from expectant to bewildered to disappointed as the expert happily informs them their knickknack is worth $600. They're hoping for the big six-figure payoff.

Many people saw the show where an Early American table was valued at close to a half million dollars (and subsequently fetched nearly that at auction). They want that payoff for themselves. A couple hundred bucks is hardly worth standing in the Roadshow line on show day.

The oldsters on Road Show always say "I'd never part with the item of course" but you know that's usually a crock. That's similar to the big lottery winners saying they won't quit their job, their lawyers tell them to say that so their employer will continue to pay insurance until you get their own special policy.

You just know they're going to sell Aunt Edna's ugly vase valued at $25,000 rather than let the kids sell it a week after their funeral.

Like Fluffy says, I pretty well know the value of everything I have also. Though I do have a few things packed away that I may have forgotten about. And I'm always searching for that lost treasure when I go on a buying trip.

If I had anything of great value I would sell it. Mostly because I wouldn't want the responsibility of ownership and insurance in case of damage, theft or fire. And also because I like money.

The only valuables I would not sell are family heirlooms, but since my father came from France when he was 10 (with one bag), and my mother came from a poor family (no good stuff there), I don't have any. If I found ANYTHING worth money, IT IS GONE! I can't stand the thought that a THING is worth $10,000. The fact is that most of these people who did "Fairly Well" on the road show would have done 10 times better if they were in the stock market with that original $250.
