I have nice cookery book to sell, and it has those indentations at the page edges for easy finding, like you get on some dictionaries and Bibles, but I can't remember what they are called. I am thinking they may be "thumb indexes", but I want to be sure.

They call them Fan-Tab Thumb-Index Reference System or variations of that term.

If you enter "thumb index" ( with the quotation marks ) in the ebay search engine and select descriptions and title then you will see many book sellers describing the book indents that way.
