I asked my server for help they can take days I hope one of you may know the answer for me faster;

Today my email server keeps sending mail back saying "mailer dameon undeliverable"
know none of the mail is from me to me etc.. all to addresses I have no idea where they came from, each has an attachment a ".dat file that says, these files used by operating system and various programs, blah blah can damage your system if you edit or modiyfy"

I ran Norton's again no virus found and Norton's was updated yesterday. I get about 3 an hour, use zone alarm, on cable, and use outlook express.

Is someone spamming my email or something?
Thank you

I was getting those a few weeks ago - and plenty of them. It was like I had sent emails to someone and the email address wasn't valid, so they came back. I also have Norton, so felt pretty much like I was protected.

It's a type of virus that was going around - I believe there was a thread here about it (will try to find it)

Just keep deleting them like I did - they will eventually stop...

That sounds like the Klez virus or something similar. Go to this place and do a free registration http://housecall.trendmicro.com They found what I had.

Are you getting any email attached to it? Can you look at the full header ? Try sending yourself email from another source like yahoo or hotmail and see what happens

The following web address might shed some light on your problem. I hope this helps.
Sometimes people have email addresses that are not correct because they don't want to receive any emails. Maybe they will insert an extra letter in their name or in their server they might spell it wrong. I have encountered this and it really is frustrating. If a bidder bids and wants to receive your WBN then they should have the correct address.

I have been having the SAME problem for about 2 weeks now. Mailer-Daemons not originating from my email addy, nor any that we have sent to. Weird too....many from other countries and some from military sites. We had recently updated our Norton anti- virus and I have been running that every day... but no help at all. I am getting 20- 30 of these some days.
I have called my server 3x also to no avail.
And it seems like the more I delete, the more
I get. I do think it is a form of the KLEZ virus, so I am going to check out the site that mattson referred to and see what they are about.

I ran it too, and it also found no virus.
I am thinking of changing my email address if it continues. Not too big of a deal, as
contact through ebay is through "ask seller a question". I'll just have to change my registration info/ email with all service providers. I have'nt been listing for the past month, because sales are slow..but have not looked forward to handling the congestion of these "mailer- daemons" on top of ebay business emails when I resume. I'll give it a few more days, seems like some who have been troubled with it no longer have the problem?
keeping fingers crossed....

I have been getting this type of email for weeks now and am pretty sure it is in some way related to Klez. I find it courious that some of these messages are followed by a spam that wants to sell me some sort of anti virus software. I also think that this type of email is an attempt to get folks to respond to the address with questions, thus letting them know your address is a viable address. I got one once that said "stop sending me viruses" and I responded only to be burried by the klez. In the next 24 hours I recieved 79 klez attacks! I have actually resorted to checking my web mail each morning and deleting all these bogus emails as well as the two or more Klez I get on a daily basis before I actually down load my email to outlook. Creaters of viruses are the lowest forms of life on the planet!

I had this problem back in September or October. I never did determine if it was the Klez or something else.

How the Klez works is:

You send an email to someone. That someone gets the virus. The virus uses that someones incoming email addresses to send out bogus emails to others (thereby getting yours even though you do not have the virus).

I was receiving hundreds of them. It does finally stop. I changed all my passwords to be safe including the email passwords but it seemed to stop by itself.

I too was afraid my ISP would kick me off the web or someone would file charges but it seems to be pretty common and no one seemed concerned but me. I did trace mine down to a gambling site and it was a XXX one at that. I had never been there but all the emails had a link inside directing recipients to that site.

I wrote them an email requesting it stop immediately as I am still not sure my email address wasn't just hijacked to use to mail out the emails. It took me several days to get brave enough to open up the returns to see what they were because I was afraid they contained a virus.

See if your returns are all about the same thing or directing people to the same web site. If so, go to that website and then send email to support or customer service and tell them to stop it. I did, but I don't know if changing my password worked or the email I sent worked, or it just ran it's course.

That's not much help, because it is pretty scary when it is going on. It made me wonder how many thousands of people actually received emails from my address thinking I was the one sending the spam.

Lindajean- I to have the same thoughts about my isp and what people are getting emails from my address,
I got 10 durning the night, I keep Norton's on all the time, Nothing, I am going to clean out my address book, probably a little late but the only thing I can think of,
Doesn't look like a 24 hour virus! Or maybe ist's just a cold so far......
