I currently have an auction up for an item. I happen to have 11 of these items. It is selling for a really good price, so I would hate to try a dutch auction and not have them sell for as much. How does the Second Chance Offer work. I read about it on ebay, but I still am confused. Will both parties be able to leave me feedback? Like I completed 2 seperate trasactions (without the listing fees for 2 ) Or only the first person counts?

Thanks for your help!

Amy

Amy,

I use 2nd chance all the time and love it! Here's a breakdown of the advantages!

Seller:

1) No Listing Fee (although a FVF is applied)
2) Allows you to retain a possible customer rather then lose them to competition
3) Ability to leave feedback for bidder

Bidder:

1) Ability to leave feedback for Seller
2) Assurance of coverage through eBay's insurance program
3) Don't have to look around to find the object again

Hope that helps!

I used it and had great success. It also saves AW listing fees besides all the other fees. But remember the item on second chance only goes for what the 2nd chance bidder bid not the closing bid of the auction.

And also remember that many bidders have gone to their ebay preferences and opted not to receive any Second Chance offers and those bidders are filtered out of the special offering. Also you can only offer the Second Chance Offering to one bidder at a time ( either 3, 5 or 7 day duration ). If you have a nice list of potential bidders then you may want to use the 3 day durations so you can go through the list faster.

I use the 2nd Chance Offering and about 50% seem to take it. It is in the 'Buy It Now' format so there is no waiting once they decide to buy the item. Many bidders seem too confused by the offering and won't take the time to read the brief explanation by ebay on the offering.

But ebay now is set up so that you can't view a non-winning bidder's email address or send them an email. So you are limited to the second chance offer as the only way to contact a non-winning bidder. The only way around this is if the non-winning bidder has his own auctions, in which case you can contact him through "ask seller a question."

Let me see if I understand this right, because I'm confused on this subject too. I have not used this feature yet and was wanting to. I just went to an auction of mine that closed, went to the bids and viewed the bidders with email address. Now the 2nd highest bidder did not want to receive the offer. So the 3rd one down, didn't want to receive the offer. Now the 4th one down was ok. Does this mean that I would have to sell the item at the 4th highest bidders bid? Even though it is sooo much lower than the 1st?

I am amazed at the amount of "off-ebay sales" I have both during and after the auction ends. Lets put it this way if meg knew she would not sleep at night!

designsbylm. Yes the second chance offer would be the bid that that buyer bid not the final bid.

You can click that on and see what he had bid and you will see the auction page. You have a chance to view that before you send it.

Designs - no - you can choose to send a second chance offer if you would like however you are not required to.

Thanks, I get it now.

Blairwitch......I think everyone has off ebay sales, that were generated because of thier auctions. Many don't want to say they do, but they do.

Back when I ran a website I got 70% of my customers from ebay. One or two auctons won and they became site regulars. ...... Note to self: Get off your butt and build a new site.

You can see what the other bidders had bid and what the offer price will be to each bidder. Only the bidders that did not opt out of any ebay offerings will receive the offer and will be on the second chance list.

If you plan to make Second Chance Offers, click on your "Preferences" tab in My eBay and in the section entitled "My eBay Preferences", select View the Second Chance Offer column in My eBay Items I'm Selling page.

Once you've changed your preferences, whenever you have an auction close with more than one bidder, the last column listing the auction in your Selling tab will have a clickable link that will allow you to select a bidder and send a Second Chance offer.
