I am planning to change my internet service -I currently use AOL - but since I really only use the connection at home for auctions -I was exploring a less costly option. I was thinking of JOI-anyone use them? Who do you use -pros and cons.
Thanks

I use - http://home.core.com/web/start This is their home page. I have not had any problems with them at all. Maybe just a few disconnects but not as many as my daughter gets on AOL. I understand that AOL has lost 170,000 subscribers.

I dropped AOL 2 yrs. ag because I was getting dropped off so many times. I went to Hotmail.com which is free. Now I have that & MSN. As a rule I have had no serious problems, that is until "Slammer" hit 2 weeks ago. Really screwed up the weekend. Everything is back to normal now.

AOL has 35 million accounts. I use AOL only for my very old email address at $4.95 per month for unlimited email access via www.aol.com web site and use AT&T cable to access it. Buy your own cable modem on ebay and it's $10 less per month.

hmm. time warner, road runner... which is cable.

if you have a local high speed internet service provider, you might want to look into that.

unless you dont mind the speed you have now.

its hard to do without highspeed, I dont think I can ever go back to dail up.

I've used AOL back in the days, it was okay back then... now they're just charging ridiculous price when there's national dial up services that cost $10 per month.

never heard of JOI, but if its a small, local ISP, might be a good thing. This way there will be less busy signal when you try to connect, and possibly get disconnected less.

I switched to a local small ISP after AOL, I connect 90% of the time, and they, never ever disconnect me. imagine being online for a week with dial up!

robertsmithson - check your bill, AOL raised the price for that plan (where you connect with your own service, I have Verizon DSL) to $14.95 a month!

I use Adelphia Powerlink, which is a cable service. I had AOL for 5 years and was more than happy to dump it. My parents have taken over my account. It's perfect for them.

At the end of July 2002, I switched
from a local dial-up ISP (which worked
very well) to Cox Cable High Speed
Internet service. 3 Mbps download
and 256 KBps upload (and I get those
speeds too!) $35.00 per month because
I also have basic cable TV from them,
$45.00 per month without it. Their
customer service is TOPS! I did the
self install (I build my own computers,
so...) and once I adjusted the TCP
settings with Doctor TCP (freeware)
my speeds reached the upto speeds
listed above. I'm very happy.
Submitting auctions has never been
faster. The previous poster was
correct, buy your modem instead of
renting it (Best Buy and Circuit City
have deals every week). Good luck!
