I finally have a big $ item up for auction. YEAH for me. FINALLY! so I put a reserve on it. I dont want to sell a $100 item for only $25, Right? Anyway, it is on a 10 day auction and due to close on Sunday. I have been watching it with anticipation. FINALLY, the reserve was met. It stayed there for two days and very strangely, two bidders recinded their bids!! One I can understand but one right after the other?? HUMMM... I checked to see what the first one was bidding on besides mine. Well, they found one for about the same price but it closed before mine. No big deal. The other one didnt bid on anything else at all. Coincidence ? probably! (Just had to share this because it is just so weird)

Now, the question is, when a person bids on something of yours, bet it high dollar or a cheap - O thing. Do you block that bidder from bidding on anything else of yours? Just wondering.

See what happens when I have too much time on my hands? I bet everyone on the AW boards and my poor neighbors can't wait for my foot to heal and for me to be back to work.

Edited for clarity

I wouldn't block them as of yet.
Better they back out now than give you a headache later.
If they make a habit of this, then I'd consider blocking!

I'd take a look at how many bids they've rescinded over all. If this is a habit they'd get blocked. If it's a one time thing, I'd just watch them.

I would let it slide this time, but if they bid on something else at another time and did this again then I would put them on my block.

Why did you you put a reserve on it at all?..From all I hear, bidders hate reserves...If you don't want to sell a $100 item for $25, start the bidding at $100...Never could understand the reserve thing...Am I missing something here?

Jeff it depends on what you sell.In some categories a reserve is routine for higher end items. I've never had a problem with them.

OK, I gotta relate this one to the group. I had an item that I originally listed with a starting bid of $174 (just above my cost). Didn't sell after multiple attempts. I tried starting it at $9.99 with a reserve of $174. It never got close after multiple listings. I decided to dump the item and move on so I listed it at $9.99 with no reserve. Anyone want to guess what it sold for? How about $177! There's a certain psychology to low starting bid/no reserve auctions that bidders can't resist.

Well, here is the outcome so far. I blocked both of the recinding bidders. today a guy emailed me and asked if I took paypal. I told him I didnt but suggested some other forms of payment. He used my "Buy It Now" and I got the price I wanted for it! He used Bidpay. So far bidpay is pending. We'll see if it goes through! If so, I SOLD it! Oh geez, with no $$ coming in with my injury, I could sure use the money.

I had somebody retract a bid on one of my recent auctions...turns out he's pulled it on close to 40 more auctions in the past month (and he's only been registered that long). I blocked the SOB and turned him in though that appears to have gone nowhere. Sorry, I don't see any reason for someone to pull that many retractions in a month (let alone a year or more).
