I've always left feedback when the item was paid for. Never had a problem until now. Buyer won the auction & paid promptly. I shipped quickly, left the usual feedback and the item was received.

Yesterday I get the Neutral:

"Receved shippment. >NO COMPLAINTS< Recieved shippment"

My response "So why a Neutral? How totally RUDE!"

Which I was totally ticked off at, but figured it wasn't bad enough to raise a stink over. I did *NOT* email the buyer and ask why he did it. For no good reason whatsoever, I get this message in my mail this morning:

"I'm sorry that you weren't happy with my response but isn't that what "neutral" is for. If you were told otherwise then you've been lead to believe that you're living in a black or white, positive or negitive world. What I did was not rude, it was justice for a complete job. Nothing more, nothing less. More people should follow in my footsteps so we can get a fair assesment of ebay service."

Man oh man... I've ***NEVER*** wanted to neg someone so badly in my entire life!

I've changed my auction settings to now only return feedback *AFTER* I get it.

"Justice" my ***!

And of course I've added him to my blocked bidders list.

You must be using a service to reciprocate positive feedback? I just leave feedback when I ship and I don't worry about it any more. Feedback after a certain point is not integral to doing business. As long as you have a good positive feedback ratio its all good.

Just out of curiousity, does he do this to everyone? Does he ever leave a positive or negative? And this is rhetorical but what do you think a seller would have to do to get a positive from this loonie?

It is because of TOTAL FRUITCAKE PRETZEL-CHOKERS like this one that I (& many other sellers) have changed our feedback protocol to one of RECIPROCATION only!

And yes, my service always sent a random positive feeback when the item shipped. I'm not really sure how the system works with the reciprocating thing, as I only turned it on today.

------------------------------

I didn't have time to do a whole bunch of research, but here is one I found for another seller:

"Neutral : Pins were great! {{{BID HERE WITH CONFEDENCE!}}} Andre the Giant has a possie!"

That's right, I used to leave feedback first for five years. The past year has been only after they leave first, and I am happy with the move. I got tired of going out of my way for people only to have them leave me less than positive. (I consider a neutral the same as negative really) - I think maybe one person commented in their (positive) feedback that it was tacky to leave feedback after. What really blew my mind was an international transaction that was insured that never got there. I paid the buyer almost immediately (well, 30 days) and I am STILL waiting for the USPS to cut me a check 14 months later (I just got a letter from them to send them the insurance receipt, which they have and quoted the insurance claim number in the correspondence) - Anyway, it was 2 lots, and resulted in 2 neutrals. What more could they have wanted, I shipped, the post office lost it, and I get dinged? Since the shift in policy, NOTHING but positive in many hundreds of transactions....

I quit giving feedback first long ago. At the end of each day I give feedbacks to buyers who gave me that day. If they give me a neutral or negative they get one back in return. Needless to say I dont have much trouble.

weird. if you didn't email him at all and complain about you not liking the neutral feedback... did you leave a respond to the feedback?

what a weirdo.

I'll still leave feedback first, and if someone negs me for whatever reason, who cares. will I feel screwed? No, I got the money, I dont care. will it hurt sells? Probably not, the ratio of positive to negative will still be fine.

perhaps after a few hundred negatives, I'll change that policy. hehe.

its just easier for me to track who has paid and who hasn't. heh.

Yoda: Yes, I did put a response on eBay (It's in my original posting) but I did *NOT* contact the buyer and complain about it.

I was unhappy to get the feedback, but I just assumed it some newbie who didn't understand how eBay works. I had already left him feedback, and knew there wasn't anything I could do about it, so I just went on about my business.

Out of the blue, the buyer sent me the later e-mail. I think he must have been WATCHING for me to put up a response. Some kind of goofball way to get attention, I guess.

I have not answered his message, and don't plan to give him the satisfaction of a reply.

...Unless someone here can come up with a good zinger!

reading about this bidder reminded me of a boss I once had.... a real motivator she was.. and the company wonders why it could not keep the help??? I also remember why I hate to work with others there is always someone like your bidder working with you!

feedback- I took the advise here and only leave it after they have left feedback, once burned twice shy, third time neg um back...

I preferred Yahoo Auctions feedback system
where you could change your rating and add
new comments. It was very effective in
getting the attention of potential deadbeats.

Since switching to eBay (soon after YA
started thinking they were eBay and began
charging fees WAY to high for their customer
base) my new policy/TOS is as follows:

1) I leave fair and honest feedback for
every high bidder, and
2) I expect high bidders to leave fair
and honest feedback upon receipt of package
(once the contents are verified).

As a buyer I always leave feedback first,
when I get my item. As a seller I expect
it first, when the item arrives. Worded as
above, I am NOT saying I won't leave it
first, and I sometimes do, so there is no
violation of eBay policy. Those who demand
it first (of me) are reminded that by
placing their bid without notifying me of
their policy they agree to my listed TOS and
that I expect them to fully honor their bid.

Deals are a series of turn-taking, starting
when I list my item. The bidder bids. I
contact when auction ends for their info.
They reply with their info. I reply with
my info, total and shipping options. They
pay. I mail. They receive item and leave
feedback. I leave feedback. Deal done.

I've seen others clearly state they will
leave it if they get it, but I believe
that also violates eBay policy.

I'm sorry that some high bidders have been
burned in the past, but it is NEVER my
intention to leave a Negative and I HATE
doing so.

My only other advice, is to leave feedback
for deadbeats BEFORE you file for FVF. eBay
has a way of blocking me from leaving
feedback if I do it the other way around
(I guess I get a lot of 3rd time FVFers
or something). Good luck!

And make sure you block the nut from bidding
on future auctions and also add him to your
e-mail filter. Good luck!

woah, for a minute there I thought ALL that is your TOS. hehe.

replaymedia: dont bother replying to him. he just wants some attention, seems like he's on some crusade to fix the ebay feedback system. *rollseye*

personally, I would have responded by copy and pasting his entire email, then responding with: "Okay" cuz it seems like he wants to get you in on a debate or something.

we sure got a strange bunch out there.
