I think most people do a word search instead of a category one. I search by word but maybe newbies search by category.

Nice to see you back posting again.

Both.
You search then when there are too many you just click the catagory on the side to get rid of unwanted junk.

I use search when I want to see a specific item and I use catagory to see what is selling in there.

Sapington, I don't think most people know to use the categories after the search... like *coff coff* me, I never remember...
I ALWAYS use words, personally. And there are always the payper click boxes that come up on google each time you do a search; "Find "Christina Aguilar" on ebay which leads to a search words page. The categories in some of the areas are inadequate anyway. I just stick the stuff in whatever's close and craft my titles as carefully as I can. And there are some odd overlaps. AS you may know, I make magic wands. Harry Potter, I just noticed, has two categories in toys, and one in collectibles-fantasy. Why? Noone is allowed to use it unless they are selling licensed items, and most of those fit the toy category quite well. Even the throw pillows.

WORDS FIRST, THEN CATEGORY IF MORE THAN ONE COMES UP.

At least in the computer category, it is definitely title search (without the titles and descriptions). It is critical that your title contain keywords that will match what buyers are typing into the eBay search box.
