got our newest copy of Antique Week today ... there's an article about a tv show in the works ... i will exerpt most of this article's text here for y'all """""" ... exptected to launch this show by the endof 2003 ... it will be an hour long weekday show ... To be called "eBay-TV" the program will follow a magazine-style format combining aspects that have proved successful for shows like 'Extra!', and 'Antiques Roadshow', with a reality-style component also added to the mix... tapped to host the show is Molly Pesce, Miss Florida 1986, who achieved prominence on Comedy Central's 'The Daily Show' ... ebay spokesperson said "we are aiming for a daily 60-minute program which can be broadcast during the late afternoon or early evening hours. The new show will focus on people's passions...the stories behind unique items." ... included, which will be 'stripped' to contain regular signature segments, will be human-interest profiles involving buyers and sellers and some game show elements. there will be an interactive online feature to parallel the syndicated show, with ebay designing websites for its affiliate tv stations. reportedly, a commission will be paid to stations on items sold thru their individual sites, as well as a bonus for each new ebay signup processed thru the link ......... idea for this has been in development since before Aug.2001 when an announcement regarding the venture was first made by 'the internet giant' ....program originally had been scheduled to debut last fall, but as late as october 2002, a pilot still had not been shot, leaving some observers to believe incorrectly that the project had been abandoned....... ebay dropped its corporate sponsorship of PBS-tv's 'antiques roadshow' effective Dec. 31, stating it "wanted to explore other online and marketing" opportunites. "eBay-TV" may well have been one of them. ....

p.s. i think and hope that this will bring an even bigger surge of online buyers

The show sounds like a great idea. Let's hear from the buyer/seller of the $12,229 beer can from a few months ago!
If a show like the British guy taking two teams to antique fairs and then auctioning their finds 1 week later for 40% of what they just paid can get air time, a well produced show about ebaying should do fine. BTW, does anyone else think "Bargain Hunt" is one of the worst shows they've ever seen.

This might be a break eBay can need to educate the buyers that don't know what they are doing. They could have a segment on the ways and hows to bid. Segment on feedback. Lots could be done. This could be great and then it could flop. Let's hope it goes over.

I think "Bargain Hunt" is the best show about buying and selling antiques I have ever seen. It shows the reality of how much money you can lose if you don't know what you are doing. I am sure eBay's show will be about how everyone makes lots of money buying and selling. New sellers is not what eBay needs.

I love bargain hunt. First of all, the things the "Experts" say is great, usually loses money. The interesting and weird stuff is wonderful, and you can see what shows up in England without having to fly for hours on end to get there. BTW, If you are going to England, You have to try to find a Boot Sale. More Ebay-able junk then you can shake a stick at. The only problem is getting the stuff back home.

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. B. Franklin
