About as good as the beer can auction, but this money is going to be donated to Charity.

If this is for real (they probably wouldn't be mentioning the Today show if it wasn't), then how interesting to see it opened and the message read. This type of thing brings out the history buff in me.

I think this for real. I read it in the paper just recently.

This was in our local paper because one of the charities is in the area. She has a granddaughter that goes to an area school and is going to donate 10% of the $15,000.00
I can't believe though that the bidder will appear on the Today show. The mystery surrounding the bottle will be unveiled next Friday when the bottle is given to the high bidder at a press conference in Beverly Hills, calif.

I actually first heard about this one on the Today Show when Matt shoowed the bottle, mentioned the auction and said the the bottle would be opened live on the show by the winning bidder.
Now embarassing would it be with all this pre-auction hype is the winner is a deadbeat?

I would laugh if the high bidder chose not to open the bottle, since doing so would greatly reduce its value.

I'm not so sure about this auction, the metal cap looks too new to me for it to have been bobbing around the ocean for 90 years.

Also: If it's never been opened how do they know so much about the history of the note.

How gullable. It is clearly a seven up bottle that has had the logo removed. But after checking out that both the seller and bidder are newby's, it is clear that this auction is a sham.

The green-colored 7-½ inch tall glass bottle contains a message that was written sometime after 1900.
I used my microscope and I was able to make out the date on the note as "Apr 1st 2002"
All Fools Day
