After 4 years on the internet without getting a virus, I believe that I picked up the Klez virus. I never open email attachments and so I thought that I'd never pick up a virus. Apparently, I picked it up by simply opening an infected email. Now it's automatically emailing the virus out to everyone in my Outlook Express address book and I can't do a thing about it. I can still limp along the internet as long as Outlook Express is closed.
I'm planning to run the Restore cd-rom that came with the computer and it is supposed to erase everything on the hard drive and then re-install Windows 98. Will that be enough to get rid of this virus?

Thanks for the link. I ran the Klez repair tool but it was unsuccessful. It said that I'll have to try to fix it manually. Does anyone know if running the Restore cd will get rid of the virus?

You might try running this virus scan from TrendMicro. It has helped me in the past with getting rid of viruses/worms.
You can also download the Trial Version for 30 days free.

You really need to be running a virus program if you have a lot of e-mailtraffic with business. I use Mcafee and Norton is just as good. Both are inexpensive and are renewed yearly for around $35. Try going to Mcafee.com and you can get it fixed there or I would think Norton could do the same. Good luck !

Symantec has the fix for the Klez virus. The mistake most people make after running the removal program is to restart their computer automatically. If you read the entire fix procedure you will notice that you must restart your computer in MS DOS format. That should rid your comp of the problem.
