Since Ebay purchased PayPal and all our eggs are now in one basket can some of you suggest alternatives (like kind) services available?

BIDPAY - I use for money orders but there is a $5 charge and it is a mail delivery

PAYDIRECT - I have an account with them and have a Yahoo website and found it useless. Difficult to manage and I lost money in the process.

C2it - Looks workable but requires inserting the SS#. Not an option on the internet in my mind.

If there is a service out there that is similar to Paypal it may be ready to expand as Paypal members drop the service.

Anyone use the Verisign Merchant's services?

There really is nothing out there as yet that comes close to paypal.

C2it, Its a real bank, thats why the ss# is needed. If you open any account with any bank you need to do this by law.

Bidpay has lower rates now, great money order service. Another one is "payingfast" for money orders.

Anything else you would need to get your own merchant account for cc payments.

aol has a service like yahoo paydirect,i dont think too many of us use it.
there is www.propay.com which is not bad,35 cents and 3.5 % and there is also a bank transfer fee.
amzn one click is 15%,cc now is not too far behind.
search the web and you will find many sites, make sure they dont go under.

I won't get too worried about P/P & eBay together. PayPal is being run as a separate entity. EBa y is not going kill the goose that lays the golden egg. With over 20 million customers worldwide, P/P is getting bigger & has many more outlets than just eBay. If I could do it, it would be my only form of payment. Unfortunately, not everyone will use it.

there is also costco and sam club merchant account service, and discover card has a website which allows merchant to process discover card.
wells fargo, paymentech and your local banks also offer merchant account service.
if you dont want paypal or c2it to stand between you and your customer, look into propay for no long term commitment,

Very true. Look at the web traffic ranking reports. PayPal's web traffic is continuing to grow even though eBay's slipped a notch. C2it is in decline, BidPay is in decline, Yahoo Paydirect is in decline.

validcash.com offers a checking account to checking account transferr. No $5 referral, no big hype. Free for now but then they don't say free forever.

Stay away from Propay.com. They are worse than Paypal about charge backs.
They will not assist the merchant (that received payment) in defending authorized charges.

I use ProPay and have it integrated into my website shopping cart. Never had an issue regarding international credit card transactions. I think it is a good alternative to a "real" merchant account.

I am pretty internet savvy, and I messed up my c2it application- and thenI was never able to acess it again, I got a message saying "you have an application already" a year later, same message. If I can't do it, how will the newbies manage?
and i signed up with paydirect, on the grounds that any money is good money. Next thing I know this lady is emailing me, saying "Cancell my order, I can't figure out how to sign up with this paydirect!" and she was so fried she refused to try paypal or even a money order. So her poor little girls didn't get their magic wands, *snf* and i didn't make the sale.
so much for that!

Unfortunately, not everyone will use it.

I THINK WITH THE NEW TOS COMING OUT, MORE PEOPLE WILL USE IT, I AM STILL ON THE FENCE AND WILL SEE HOW IT SHAKES OUT, WON'T USE IT FOR SELLING, BUT MIGHT START USING IT AGAIN FOR BUYING.

I ONLY USE VISA THOUGH.

I don't know where you've been but I continue to process orders from international buyers. I think your "memo" reference is as old as your saying.

you can continue to process intl cards as long as they do not find out.
just before they issued that memo,i had a chargeback from someone who used a fraudulent saudi arabian card, thats in january of last year and they said since it was before the warning, they let it go.
i sense they have big losses on intl cards.
that memo was issued early last year, you can check their website and read what they have to say.i dont believe they have removed the restriction

I used to advise sellers to use propay until they started getting lots of credit card orders (once you start accepting credit card, you will find the number of orders and the average order size increasing). But propay is NOT a real merchant account. If there is a charge back, it is Propay who has to handle it and as has been reported, they don't do much for the seller. Worst of all, I discovered that their address verification was faulty. They also have restrictions that make it difficult to grow your business. For example, there is a $250 maximum transaction size and a $1000 maximum monthly limit unless you send them a hefty deposit. I had a customer place an $800 order and I had to enter it as 4 transactions to get around the $250 limit. Then a customer placed a $250 order and I couldn't process it because it put me over the $1,000 limit.

But now there are REAL merchant accounts that work even better than propay. No monthly minimums, no gateway fees, just pay-per-use at 3.5%. The seller must be U.S. based but you can accept foreign cards if you assume the risk. Best of all, there is no transaction limit and the monthly limit starts out at $5,000. But since these are real merchant accounts, it is not a 5-minute sign up at some web site. You do have to be a real business and you do have to fill out forms, provide references and get approved. As your business grows, you can change your account to one with lower fees in return for a monthly minimum and you can do this just by clicking a button on their site. They call this the dynamic merchant account. For more info, visit

For me, I use the following (in order of frequency):

1)PAYPAL
2)BIDPAY
3)PAYING FAST
4)E-FLOW

I really like E-FLOW (formerly Energy-Flow) -- they really strive for security & their CS was SUPERcalAfrag....

Only problemo: nobody uses them EXCEPT for ME!!

I've never had a problem with PayPal -- I follow the RULES! The one time a pretzel-choker tried to reverse back on me, PayPal ruled (within 24hrs) IN MY FAVOR, because I had followed the rules & had the documentation to back it up!

My experience with BidPay has also been very positive, & it is the only ONLINE option I will accept for items over $100!

I don't know why everyone is so scared to enter their SS#.

With only your name and address, any bank (or any business that has access to credit info) can access your credit report, which contains some (and in some cases, all) of the following info.

Your full name
Spouses name
Ex-Spouses name
SS#
Address
Bank Account #'s
Credit Card #'s
Utility account #'s
Personal credit history
Prior Addresses
