The person that bought these items does not use this account, however she still wants them. (My mother that is) If you could, she lives in South Dakota, and can call her at xxx-xxx-xxxx. Her name is Denise, and if you can tell her the total, and your address, she will get your payment out to you
ASAP. THanks

Needless to say I wasn't excited about this and sent the following:

I'm sorry to say that it's not my responsibility to make phone calls at my expense nor to try and arrange payment for the above listed items but the responsibility of the account holder.

The requested amount is in the text below as well as where to send payment. Payment is expected within 14 days of the close of
the auction(s) which is Monday, February 17, 2003. If payment isn't received within that time I will be filing NPB and FVF with
eBay to recoup my losses. The total of your purchase plus UPS shipping is: $37.95

How would you have handled it? This email came four days after notification was sent and I still don't have an address for the winner.

This person has a private feedback of 14

I would write back & inform them you weren't advised of any 2nd party transaction during the auction & in fact you only deal directly with the eBay account user, and then if they do not e-mail you the required info, file your NPBA, and if that runs it's 10 day course, neg 'em & move on.

And my friends all think that I'm SO lucky to be selling on E-Bay 'cause it's so easy!!!!
If we compiled all the headaches we go through as Sellers it would be volumes and volumes long!! New headaches seem to emerge every day. Thank goodness we have this forum, cause after a while you begin to think that you're JINXED!!!

rampage. Your approach to this auction was right on target. If that person wants the product then they should call you. Stick by your guns and keep us posted. Good Luck

I'd have called the number.

Why is this such a big deal?

Hows this... $50 a hour to talk on the phone? If you talk for 6 minutes, add $5 to the handling.

rampaged, when I buy something for another person like my older sister, I always email the seller first. I ask if I bid and win, and pay promptly via bank transfer through Paypal, if the seller will ship to my sister in California. All of the sellers say yes.

Anything else, like what you described, you should insist that the account that bid and won is the account that pays and is the name to which you ship. Your first consideration is to yourself, to protect yourself from scams.

sounds like old lady does not have pc.so give both mother and daughter a break, call the old lady and tell her to send a check, add the phone bill to the total.probably a dowager whose networth is more than the house of pritzker.

Have her mother call you back on your 900 number.

The nerve of some buyers.

I would have given them my number to call me to discuss payment options. It seems likely that the person who really wants the item probably does not use computers, and had their daughter place the bid.

I think I'd have replied something like:

"I'm sorry, but the eBay transaction was completed under your ID so, according to the safeguards eBay suggests for its users, responsibility for completing the transaction lies between the buyer and seller only.
I shall await payment from you until 0/00 before taking any further action. I'm sure your mother will have no problem reimbursing you the amount she owes you. If she sends off her check to you right away, we might even be receiving our payment checks the same day."

After all the snippy comments on this thread, I like waterbabes suggestion the best. It combines compassion with dignity. You can give the old lady a break, but protect your interests at the same time, you know? Actually, you did that very thing, in your own letter.

ridiculous..

this ebayer was willing to place the bid, watch the item and make sure they won but now they dont want to follow through further?

ridculous..

tell them to pay up of take a hike, youre not obligated in the least bit to accomadate stunts like this..

be nice, surely, but youve provided all the info necessary for payment so as long as the buyer understands your payment instructions, your responsibility is over until you receive it.
