Hi - I need some guidance...
I did a combine items for reduced postage on 3- ebay items (different items)
The buyer paid insurance for 1 item.
As luck would have it, one item broke.
Post Office only paid $9.20.
Total of the three items (per eBay item #s) about $170.
Post Office said to buyer... each eBay item # has to be insured with multiple items in one box.
I hope I'm clear...
Any insights
thanks

Hi - it was a middle price - about $22.00
The buyer brought in the box, a larger type... and showed what had happened... apparently it was dented on one side.
And, she'd taken the invoice...I'm a little foggy on this part, but I think the post office person asked if more than one item was mailed... and the buyer showed the invoice.
Then the post office person said, while its fine to combine and reduce mailing expenses, each separate item has to be insured because if 3 items were mailed and two or maybe all three broke, the insurance was only for one item.
I refunded her the difference. The buyer was pretty good, she understood the post office position and then asked what could I do. So I refunded.
thanks

I see the post office position too - it is standing behind you bending you over.

That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of. You don't buy indivual insurance policies to cover each belonging in your home, Why would you buy one for each item in a shipment. You insure total value of all items in one fell swoop. They are attempting to make you buy insurance three times thus expanding heir income. Try explaining that one to your next buyer.

I can see the neg now that results from informing a buyer that they must purchase seperate insurance for each item in a shipment. No customer is going to buy that one.

Hi - I agree...the post person said for each ebay item #...so three items, three numbers.
I still have to check with my local post office
they appear to have fluid policies
thanks

this is as clear as mud-how much insurance did she take out??
170 or 25 dollars??
or somewhere in between??
if the item broken is only worth 9.20,then she gets 9.20??

Hi - I'm sorry - it is confusing...she paid $1.30 for insurance.
Sorry

If I read you right, she paid $170.00 for your auctions than that package should have been insured for $170.00 not $1.30 because that amount is only for $50.00 worth of insurance. You needed enough insurance to cover the whole package. Then I would think the PO would give you the purchase price of the item that was broken.

I think the PO is right. The package didn't have enough insurance to cover the amount of merchandise in the box. Not that you needed 3 insurance tickets but you needed $170.00 worth of insurance.

If you ask 3 people a question at the PO you will get 3 differnt answers. Keep going back until you get a satifactory answer.

if 3 items shipped together is worth 170,but buyer takes out 50 dollars insurance, hoping not all three items will break.
makes sense, one item broke,so she gets up to 50 dollars for insurance claim.
the item which broke,is it worth 9.20 only??
if so,then both parties did the right thing,it is covered by the 50 dollars max insurance.

I believe the problem is that the item's value was $22.00 but the postoffice only covered $9.20.

You should have been covered for up to $50 so I think you should go back and get the full $22...Good Luck, as others have said, sometimes it takes a few tries. Just go up the chain of command if you get an answer you don't like.

You should of insured for $170 and listed all the items in the box on the form. It has places to list the items and the values.

AIN'T LIFE GRAND...
