I don't know how else to let them know about how items are mispresented. I would like to post some really old antique prints but the catagory is so flooded with junk reproductions at 99 cents that are listed under Antique prints that it makes no sense to list anything really valuable. This happens with too many other catagories of Antiques and Collectibles-Don't expect any results but had to get it out of my system-

I hear what you are saying. There's a lot of that in the jewelry category, too. What makes something think that when I'm looking for an "antique" piece, I'm going to buy their "antique style" piece?

Count yourself lucky if they at least call it that. I see a lot of repros out there where they claim its the real thing or are very misleading.
But you are right that the trash is flooding the site.

Oh, and don't you just love it when they call a 1950's piece an antique (e.g., A beautiful antique 1950's necklace)? I resemble that remark. Being born in the 1950's, I don't appreciate being called an antique. I will get there soon enough without the help of Ebay (or because of it). LOL.

If eBay read these threads they might learn something and then that would be disastorus.

In order to weed out the bad items it would take a ton of employees. Maybe the eBay police have to start again and then that's a whole other subject. I sell Jewelry but before I sell it I research it to see in what catagory it belongs in. Ebay needs a catagory called junque jewelry and then that would be full.

LOL at Libra..

junque jewelry wouldn't be full because they all think their stuff is priceless!!

I tried doing a smart search on box lot without all the computer parts, cds, tapes and sports stuff...I finally gave up because I couldn't eliminate enough of the crap.

My biggest pet peeve is when they list 2 or 3 pages of the exact same item...don't they realize they are shooting theirself in the foot? Why pay a lot for one when you have 50 to wait for the cheap snipe on?

Cheryl, I'm LOL! Same here. I may be old, but not THAT old!

Rarriffle, ditto.

I also have trouble with too much junk on ebay. Ebay needs to spin off all the junk listed at $9.99 and under in anouther auction site like they did Ebay Motors.

Especially new merchadise that's under $9.99. How many pocket lazer lights, penis shaped key chains, etc. can a person wade through anyway????

Wow. I just looked at a "New Old Ring." Just had to look at it. With a title so contracdictory, couldn't help myself. No, it's not new old stock, either. Just a new ring that looks old. LOL. Another interesting thing in the vintage jewelry category is that a lot of sellers will plop a bunch of jewelry into a pile, call it a "lot of vintage jewelry" and actually get decent bids. Somehow I cannot bring myself to: 1. list in that manner 2. bid in that manner. I'm willing to bet that under the first couple of good pieces you see on top, the rest contains "new old" stuff. Definately need a new category. Everything cannot be vintage.

For those that may be interested: Victorian Jewelry (1837-1901, three actual periods: early, mid and late); Art Nouveau (1890-1915); Edwardian (1901-1910); Art Deco (1920-1930); Retro (1935-1949). Don't know what the period of 1930-1935 is. Anything after 1949 is considered contemporary/vintage.

'30-'35= Depression Era. Or even to '40.

I sometimes buy on ebay and just hate to open an auction for Victorian jewelry to find "new victorian style" I just want to write them and tell them they are in the wrong catagory - but what good would that do - I think they know it.
I saw one auction with a brand new ring in an antique box (not included as the seller used it over & over - I checked his other auctions) and the seller was getting 4 to 5 times more than others with the same type rings. I felt sorry for the winners.
