I specifically state in all my add copy that I do not accept Paypal payments. To make sure I don't screw up, I don't even offer that avenue of payment in any of my auctions.

But!!!!!!! I just got an email from paypal where a person paid for an auction through them!

Please, a little help here to make sure that NEVER,NEVER,NEVER happens again!
The poor sap is gonna have to wait two weeks to get his widget `cause I', not sending it until I get my check from paypal.

I would refund the payment back to him and tell him to either send money order or go to Bidpay if he wanted to use a credit card. with Bidpay you don't pay fees but you get your money order in just a few days. I don't ship until I get the money order.

Don't use your eBay ID's email address on your PayPal account, or close your PayPal account.

Can't a seller be sent money as long as the bidder/buyer knows ANY of your email addreses? Paypal's instructions used to say you can send money to anyone with an email address.

Those with personal accounts can't receive credit card payments, but PP will encourage the potential recipient to upgrade to a business account so they can accept the payment.

I have had sellers send a payment to a different email address of mine simply because I accidentally communicated from one of my other email boxes concerning their auction win. I had to add that email address to my existing Paypal Account to receive the funds.

I don't think you can fix things where no one can ever send you Paypal. All they need is your email address.

A buyer can try and send you a payment, but if it isn't registered with PayPal the buyer is notified you aren't a member and unless the seller signs up or adds the address to their existing account the funds remain in the buyer's control.

That's the way it's always been and there are countless services who do/did operate the same way, (C2it, Yahoo PayDirect, ExchangePath, eMoneyMail, etc..) I don't see any business reason PayPal/eBay would change their model.

This happens to me too. Just refund the money. Pain in the butt though.

Freedom Harley If you don't have a PayPal account, then you don't have to do anything other than tell the buyer to cancel the transaction and send payment in a form you accept.

If you do have an account, but don't want to accept PayPal payments then click the refund link in the transaction page.

Thanks to all who have responded to this thread.

I have to admit a grave error in that I requested a check be cut to us in concern that the guy would back out after the item was shipped. I ahd not even entertained the idea that i could refund the customer via PayPal.

For what it's worth, the buyer emailed me the following day to explain that he uses the PayPal website to check the status of his bids. Upon conformation of his winning bid, he just clicks the button and all is taken care of.

thanks again everyone.

If you have an account with P/P, you could have saved time by having a wire transfer to your local bank. I use P/P all of the time & use wire transfer whenever there is over $500.00 in my acct. Takes about 4 business days, not 2 weeks like a check.
