Whether listings are up or down it does not matter, ebay has become corrupted with shill bidding and pulled listings. The main reason for all this points back to their high fees. If fees was not so high more people would list and less people would shill. Ebay is becoming less and less as a place to make profits, although it is a good place to clean out the closet at give away prices. So much work and less profit. Ebay's reason for increased fees is to make ebay a better place, to weed out the weak. This may be true for a minority but it has suceed in killing off a majority of good listings. The quaLITY IS NOT THERE. There efforts to stop shilling has not seceeded, it is at a all time high, just the shill cops can not catch them like they use to. Ebay has made it harder for them.

in the collectibles area,it is true, dealers who have good stock just cant give them away, and no one will bid if they asking price is too high, like higher than 9.99 in many cases.
but those with junk is just wasting their time listing, ebay is very expensive if items dont sell.
the mentality right now is that prices just keep going down, down and down.may be when it bottoms and there is nothing worthwhile to bid, prices will come back.
may be

Yes, I considered selling my pretty good stamp collection in pieces on ebay, but determined it would be a waste of time. I can still make a buck selling books, however. The challenge is finding books that will sell. I think for sellers ebay is truly becoming a niche market. You have to have special knowledge that most people don't have, and you apply this knowledge to finding good material.

Coins are a tough sell, if you're selling investor grade, you can just about forget it.

Actually though a good auction in collector grades still does pretty good, I have won a few auctions on coins and have had good luck.

I have sold a few coins also... so it is just a matter of what is the least you can take...

What cave are you living in? I am making a comfortable income selling collectibles on eBay. I have never used shill bidding. Don't need to when you build up your reputation with quality merchandise. As far as eBay dying, so are you & me.

sanmar,
what are you selling??
there are people who claim they do well, they will unleash hundreds if not thousand of low priced items and then talk about blocking bidders.
when it comes to nice collectibles which are hard to replace, the bid amounts are so low more sellers are not willing to list on ebay unless they need to meet rent.

The same situation is presnet with b&m antiques/collectibles. In my area, there many more stores selling these items than can possibly be supported by buyers.

I don't think anyone ever throws away anything anymore.
