We use a personal account and knew full well when we signed up that we would get some morons who would disregard all the times we told them "NO PAYPAL CREDIT CARD PAYMENT" and try to do one anyway.
What we hadn't anticipated was how many people would be doing that. The level of ignorance and stupidity out there is just staggering. Harsh words? Maybe, but just how dumb do you have to be to entrust your credit card, bank account or virtual cash to a service when you don't even fully understand how that service works? You're paying for something and you have no idea where the cash is coming from?
We're up to 18 attempted cc payments over the past two days and I'm getting really tired of the oh-so-predictable email.
"I have a payment receipt. I sent it to you."
"You SAID you accepted PayPal!"
"All right, I'll send a check then." (and they never do)
It's just not worth advertising PayPal as an option. I don't use the logo; I just mention it in the TOS.
I'll keep PayPal for the faithful ones who always pay promptly and have a clue. The rest can go back to buying money orders.
Now, to strip the PayPal wording out of 600-plus auctions (sigh)...

YES, you SHOULD drop the PP PERSONAL ACCOUNT, since, as a BUSINESS, you are ABUSING it!
The PERSONAL ACCOUNT is for folks to send 2 or 10 bucks to Auntie Mergatroid for her Bingo binges & other assorted & varied PERSONAL reasons liketh that!
The BUSINES ACCOUNT is for BUSINESSES! And, although your Customer Service philosphy seems to consist of shaking the used kitty litter off the item before shipping, with yer 600/week auctions, you are OBVIOUSLY a BUSINESS!
Hopefully, PP will dump the so-called PERSONAL ACCOUNT in the near future, thus eliminating all such free-loaders & potentially lowering fees for folks who recogize an obligation to fees for reasonable business services

I think you will lose some bids without Paypal. I try to only bid on auctions that take it. And yes, sometimes (rarely) even I get caught up in the moment of a soon-to-end auction and forget to see if they take it or not.
With your great sell through rate I guess you don't need Paypal like some of us do.
I have at least 75% of my buyers pay through paypal. And, even though items are low end (often around $5) I still just count it as the cost of doing business.
And, I also never (well hardly ever) bid on items that don't accept it.
I pay all bills online now and I have become spoiled to the new age of clicking a button and having everything done for me. Check writing is just toooooo much trouble!

Another self-appointed expert...and God in heaven, I'm sick of them.
Unlike other people, I actually read Terms of Service before agreeing to them. What I am doing is perfectly legal and entirely acceptable according to PayPal rules.
You might try it sometime, buttwipe.

I agree too. You do far too much business on ebay to use a personal paypal account. If you don't want to pay the fees, you should just drop it. It isn't worth the hassle to deal with people who really don't (or shouldn't need to) understand the difference between a cash funded payment and a credit card funded payment. I think that is putting too large of a burden on the buyer.
On a sort of related front, can a seller demand (within the terms of service of ebay and paypal) to have cash funded payment and not credit card funded payment) (You answered this question, was just wondering)

I think PayPal is a great tool for the serious seller via a Premier/Business account. Trying to use a Personal account to sell on eBay is like trying to operate a furniture moving service using your personal pickup. Yeah you can do it, but you'll have a lot of problems and have to do a lot of jerry rigging.
Just going on the history of fluffythewondercat's posts here on the eBay Outlook I think she and her unreasonable buyers would be better off if she didn't offer PayPal.

Folks..I think our Fluff-ball is off her cat-nip and on her computer. She has been on a tear the past few days. Or may Tomcat is out of town??? In Fluff's defense, it is perfectly alright to receive cash payments for auctions via paypal on a personal account. You can check that if you want in the agreement. HOwever, I don't know many serious e-bayers that do it because so many people use their credit cards. I use the Business account. As a customer, I have run across a few who have asked me to pay via my balance or checking account. I don't mind doing it if it is not a hassle. Actually, I wouldn't blame the buyers, but Paypal. They make a buyer believe that any form of payment (ie. cc or ck acct) is suitable to pay for your auctions. That way, paypal can get you to move up to the Business acct. Now, fluff...go get some nip and leave the posters alone.

fluffy the wonder ebay seller once posted that someone tried to sell her 500 rings and will only accept paypal and she is annoyed that she is not registered with paypal and so she did and it will take 2 days to get her innitiated,and she cant wait,she either want the 500 rings NOW or dont want it.
as typical of this person,she comes to this board and blamed the seller of the rings.
i hope she switched to business paypal and her bidders can file chargeback,we will see who is the dumb one!!
this is the same person who said ebay capacity of blocking up to 1000 bidders is not enough for her .

Fluffy, from your numerous posts to this Board over time, constantly complaining about your customers, you seem to always be angry, upset and discontented. You only get one life. This is it for you. Why not focus on the parts of your life that gives you joy, passion and happiness? If your customers give you such constant grief and torment, then restructure your eBay business to sell a higher end of merchandise, and thus you will attract a better type of customer. Many sellers on this Board never encounter the problems that make you so angry.
I realize this advice has been given to you before. I am merely reminding you of what others have written in the past. It is better for your health and longevity to live your life so as to minimize feelings of anger and discontent.
Stopwhining, yes I agree with you. I remember that thread. There is something fundamentally wrong with the way the eBay business is structured if a seller needs the BBL to have a larger capacity than 1000. I have less than two dozen ids on my BBL, and most of those are placed there from receiving unusually odd Ask A Seller A Question emails through eBay, with content that indicates that the sender is potentially mentally unstable.

hotcupoftea....that's a very commendable post. Well written. Mainly, you managed to express your point without resorting to name calling upon dear fluffy. Yet, you implied enough. And mainly expressed important thoughts on life. I personally only tolerate fluufy as he/she adds some spice to this board. Maybe if floofy replaces her cat with a vibrator it will help her ...I couldn't help myself.....

In Fluffy's defense (and she has always been kind to me and I think has a lot of valid things to say)...I ABSOLUTELY HATE PAY PAL TOO!...they won't put my name on the account (opened in my husband's name when he was the only one using eBay) - they won't even TALK to me on phone when I have technical issues because I am not on the account (and my husband is on business trips 75% of the time)....it rankles whenever i see that their fee can amount to nearly 10% on a $5.00 item....so I raised my minimum bid amount and now EVERYONE pays for PayPal...funny thing is I didnt notice a decline in business (but that's another story)....I would never think of dropping PayPal..NEVER..not only do a lot of buyers use it but when it comes right down to it, it is a WHOLE LOT EASIER for me when I am processing so many orders...so much faster to handle than opening checks and trying to identify who is paying for what (certainly you must have buyers that send checks without auction ID on them..i have a stack of "get to it when i can" checks)...and then you have to endorse the checks,,total them..deposit them..watch to see if any bounce..face it...PayPal is the easiest way to transact e business all the way around! I think FLuffy that PayPal is just a necessary evil...got to use them but don't have to like them. (PS: on the buyers side, I try to use ONLY paypal too)

Something don't add up here. If you are cranking all these mega sales. After a certain amount of sales pay pal will basically make you switch to a business account. Evidently you have still not met that Golden number.
I know, for a what seemed like a long period of time I never paid,,,personal account and then one day came. You need to upgrade your account status, would you like to do that now? E'r well,,,,, I,,,, guess I hit the button and there were no more buttons to click. BaM! I was now a bonofide paying fees seller.
I sold ALOT I mean alot!!!! of stuff in that time frame, MAR. APR. MAY, 2000,even got a letter from e bay after only 3 months of selling to be a POWERSELLER! whoopie. That name looked like trouble to me. TOO official. I never did reply.
BOTTOM LINE: that little number in pay pal. number of transactions,,,,,How many show?

i think she is a recent paypal member ,read her past thread on idiot supplier who wants to sell her 500 rings and would only take paypal and she has to wait 2 days for paypal to approve her registration.
she said she either want it now or never.see,she think we are somekind of buttwipe for her,to come to this board and call every one stupid .the aw members,her ring supplier and her bidders and blocked bidders and paypal.

i remember your post as well,your hubby has an account with paypal and you called paypal and they refuse to co-operate with you.
see,there is a difference when the name of the paypal account is with JOE DOE and a female voice said i am mrs. joe doe and i need help.
you should open another account in your name if you are the doing most of the work.
every one complains about paypal or any service,they never look at themselves and say am i complying ??

I would do that but I have 800 verified transactions and would want to transfer those numbers (for what they are worth) to a new PP account (i have ALWAYS done all the work!) but PP won't do that....are those numbers worth anything?? Do buyers look at those to see if they can trust the seller?
The account is JOINT , i just don't see why the PP account cant be JOINT as well...I think if my husband called in we might at least get me added as secondary person (though his name would still appear on WBN) but he is NEVER home..in Switzerland this week, Argentina next and then to Australia for a month...PP emails all come to my email address so I transact all business that I can via email

The only time I look at number of verified transactions is (1) ebay newbie; (2) international and (3) request to ship to another address, ie the office instead of my home or this is a present for Aunt Mildred...PLEASE, don't ask if I put a card in for auntie, OK? Bottom line, open your own account, no one cares about the verified..IMO
