Did you know that paypal reserves the right to go into your linked bank account and TAKE money out at their discretion? For example if you ship to a non-confirmed address and the charge is reversed with an insufficient amount of funds in your account they will go into your personal funds and grab what ever they could without your permission. Your money as a seller is 100% AT RISK with no appeals process. Don't believe me? Read the user agreement.

Did you also know that the buyer has the rights and the seller does not? I called and inquired about some large purchases that were made by a customer all shipping to a non-confirmed address at a port in Miami and Paypal told me that they protect "any and all buyer info" and will not act on the same unless instructed by the authorities.

Paypal secret?? This has been around for awhile now. Read P.P. terms of use when you sign up, its all there. Nothing new about this if people took the time to read before they hit the "Iagree" button.

Did you read between the lines? Please tell me where it says that they will NOT act on potential fraud, and also where it says that they are the FINAL deciding factor. I could not find it but obviously you might have found it.

tortollini: here's a good tip for ya -- if ya don't like PayPal, don't use it!

Folks with normal, everyday, 6yo toddler common-sense use PayPal everyday without any problemos what-so-ever!

I've had over 700 transactions as a seller without any fuss nor muss, except for one pretzel-choker who tried to pull one on me! SHE LOST HER CLAIM WITHIN 24 HRS! because I use common-sense & follow the rules!

And, for items I sell where I can't afford to EAT A LOSS, I'm not stupid enough to accept PayPal! I then employ BidPay & && all the way to da bankie-poo!

When you go into the p.p. site just click into where it says "To view the old User Agreement, click here." This is at the top.

The new look is not the same as the old one was. Just take your time with it as its a long user terms.[bed time reading as it will make you fall asleep]

Bottom line is that you take most of the risk with p.p. You need dc or online tracking with all shipments and a signature over $250.00 for the so called seller protection program.

Best to find your own comfort zone and limit the amounts you take with p.p.

tomwiii sez... "here's a good tip for ya -- if ya don't like PayPal, don't use it! Folks with normal, everyday, 6yo toddler common-sense use PayPal everyday without any problemos what-so-ever!"

You got that right. I have made many hundreds of PayPay transactions without a single problem. Including several international transactions each week. No problems.

Yep, I know sooner or later I'm gonna have one. So what. The increase in business and ease in payment receipts (as well as paying for my own buying habits heh heh) more than outweigh whatever "problem" that might come up.

If ya don't like PayPal, the solution to your problem is easy - don't use it. Open a merchant account.

Either you're in business, or you're not.

If you need to "talk" about p.p. you can go over to the ebay boards [paypal] where most of the pro and bash group is these days.
If you need to ask a p.p. rep just ask for damon as he hangs out there.
Aw does have a p.p. site also but as damon does not come here anymore its pretty dead now. Best of luck.

rsciolino This is what I do. I have two checking accounts which are not connected in any way. The bank can't take from one and give to the other. I use one only for PayPal and that is where I send my money. When it gets to my bank I immediately transfer it to my other checking account. I leave a $5.00 balance in the PayPal one. This protects me from someone stealing all my money. Check with your bank or credit union to see if that is their policy and if it is then get another checking account. On the PayPal checking account I do not write checks out of there. It is only to receive payment from PayPal. We have to protect ourselves because no one else will.

i thought paypal has amended the agreement that it will not access member bank account??
i am not sure what your question is with the non confirmed shipping address of your buyer, the credit card issuer has 2 of his addresses, one is the billing address where his statemnt is sent and the other one is his residential address where he dwells.
AMEX may have more if the member asks the address to be added to his account.
if you feel uncomfortable shipping to non confirmed address, you need to hash it out with your buyer, you can do reverse phone lookup, call the place to see if it is a drop off place or refuse paypal payment and ask for cashier check, you have up to 30 days to hit that paypal refund button.
if you give us more info, may be we can help you.
paypal is still cheaper than the other services, but it is another layer you have to deal with when things dont work .

Libra63's suggestion is the way to go. I actually have my PP account at an entirely separate bank. I can't do automatic "sweeps" but the PP bank has an ATM right in the building where I work so it's very easy to bop down and withdraw any excess fundage.

i am not sure libra 's solution is ideal, when paypal gets into your bank account to reverse the payment,it is due to-
buyer files chargeback/complaint and you are not covered under seller protection(ship within 7 days, signature receipt for over 250 dollars, online trackable confirmation and more).
there are cases when you follow all the seller protection and you still get money taken back,as paypal does not want to absorb the loss in the chargeback, usually a large amount.
just because there is no fund in your paypal account does not mean they are going to forget the case.
your paypal account will show a deficit and if you continue to use your account to accept payment, these payments will be applied to the deficit first.
if you walk away from that account, you cannot set up another paypal account,so you are out of paypal.
on yahoo shops, people buy to give gifts and ask to send to non confirmed addresses, you need to do diligence work to make sure you are comfortable to complete the order,it is all part of the cost of doing business.

If I am going to pick and choose which auctions I will accept Paypal for, should I take any mention of them out of my auctions? I can't very well tell them after the auction ends that I have decided not to accept Paypal for this particular auction.

As I recall, the going into a bank account thing was only for people who signed up after Oct 2001. The previous agreement did not allow Paypal to go into a bank acct for chargebacks and if you signed up before the change, the change did not apply to you.

Echo Libra et al's suggestion that you open a PP only account and sweep it regularly. I do.

use your judgment,if you dont feel comfortable with the transaction, ask for a money order .
offer to pay for their fee if they use bidpay to send you a money order/
another piece of info worth remembering is that paypal expects you to ship within 7 days of payment receipt,so if you dont have the item or you are relying on drop shipper, make sure you can meet that deadline.
there is a past thread where the buyer walked away with free merchandise as the seller drop shipper did not ship within 7 days
