I agree. It's a pain in the neck. I don't want to pick my catagory 1st. I usually write up my listings on paper and come back and type them in a week later. How can I remember if that dress had short sleeves or no sleeves, etc...

I look at the picture...see the item...and then pick the catagory.

They should only let people who actually list auctions dink around with things like this.

Ugh.

if they are looking to make the page load faster, why not move that store category crapola off the bottom of the page and make it a separate page for those with stores, like a box to click that says "list this in my store" and then the details come up on another page....that would clean up the listing page some.

Just listed my first item with the new and
Unimproved listing tool. Just MORE work to do it this way. I have asked them for years to REMOVE the writing in the header and body of listing after the first time of use that session. Nothing, so I have to remove it each time manually. Listing needs to be easier not harder. Key word here is EASIER

THE PEOPLE WHO CHANGE TO IMPROVE THE AUCTIONWATCH LISTINGS ARE NOT THE ONES WHO SIT AND ACTUALLY USE IT...
IT MAY SEEM QUICKER/EASIER/FASTER IN THERE THEORY BUT NOT TO US....
HOW ABOUT YOU ASK US..THE PEOPLE WHO PAY TO USE IT?

Hello everybody!

I just wanted to jump in and explain the changes to the Sales Manager create listing process.

We have changed the process a bit to accommodate eBay's Item Specifics, which is not only a highly requested feature, but which will be incorporated into many more eBay categories in the coming months.

The advantages of the category selector being separated from the rest of the listing information:

1) It allows us to present the correct Item Specifics fields to you directly within the listing form. Since eBay is planning to have widespread use of Item Specifics across their categories this year, having these fields within the listing form (instead of in a pop-up or on an additional page) will save our sellers time and effort creating eBay listings.

2) It helps distribute the large amount of page data -- now the listing page itself can load much faster without the whole category tree. This is especially noticeable when you go to edit pending listings or re-lists.

For most users, the new listing process actually has the exact same number of clicks as the previous page flow.

Please note, if you frequently create eBay listings, you can set a bookmark on the "Choose Category" page for eBay by bookmarking this page: http://wsacp.auctionwatch.com/my/acp/edit_auction.html?site_id=1

If you use the Manage Images link (under the navigation tabs) to upload your images, you can do this prior to creating your listing and then select the image filename from the list on the create listing page. This really should not create additional work or clicks, though you might need to change your process a bit. We do appreciate your feedback on the matter.

Thanks,

Diana

Thanks Diana....
I have read your reply twice and I THINK I understand..It would have saved everybody time if you had reported this FIRST before changing the listings...Giving us notice and a chance to compute it in our heads and not be confronted with something new and with nobody to discuss it with....

dacreson- if you go under "my account" and "ebay site specifics" you can put that as your default catagory and you'll never have to type it in again - you'll just have to change the catagory when you list something else. It has saved me a lot of time.

Diana,

This is not "new and improved." If it ain't broke, don't fix it! Now looking at other listing programs in lieu of this one.

You say the change "will save our sellers time and effort creating eBay listings." This is not the case at all. For example, everything I list is different, cannot make a template that suits them all. Each is different and unique. Sometimes when I research them, I find a category(ies) other than the one(s) I started out with is more suitable. The original way, the page "flowed" and the change was simple.

Why must people tinker with programs that work perfectly well? Sigh. IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!

A way has been figured around this Nightmare of hoops they have self created. Still hoops BUT it Works....

Click on the Category, I have found antiques to be the easiest, then other, no more arrows on that one. then you go right to the old familiar place,BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOW you HAVE to be SURE!!!!! POSITIVE to EDIT!!!! THE CATEGORY!!!!!! OH won't this be fun to try and remember!!!! otherwise all your work will be wasted in the antique section!!!! Insane!!!!! Just Simply Insane!!!!!!

Way to go auction watch. list in one cat. and then try to not forget to CHANGE it to what you really wanted in the first frigging place...

Here's the message I just sent AW in one of their threads:

AuctionWatch--for God's sake! I have loved you and have recommended you to friends who sell on ebay. NO
LONGER. They are already calling me to complain about this "new and improved" listing method!

DID YOU HAVE ANYONE WHO SELLS ON EBAY HELP YOU WITH THIS?!!!!

YOU SEEM TO BE GOING THE WAY OF EBAY, TINKERING WITH THINGS THAT WORK WELL. SHAME
ON YOU.

Here's what happens for those of us who list collectibles--there's almost NEVER an item in the same category in
a group of our auctions! And writing the description, uploading the pictures, AIDS OUR CREATIVE JUICES to
change categories frequently until we have it right.

HOW COULD YOU.

Hi, Everyone --

We apologize if the new flow seems awkward at first. We do appreciate all your input and feedback. Unfortunately, we needed to change the listing pages to accommodate eBay's Item Specifics.

As you may know, eBay is planning to increase use of Item Specifics across more and more of their categories as we go forward. Sellers who do not provide Item Specifics information in their listings are increasingly at a disadvantage. According to eBay, "Listings using Item Specifics are more likely to sell, and at prices 10% higher than others, on average."

Our aim was to support Item Specifics without requiring additional pop-ups or pages for you. Before, you had to 1) click "create listing", 2) then select your venue, then 3) "continue" to access the listing page. Now, you 1) click the venue, 2) select your category, and 3) "continue" to get to the listing page.

Thank you for your feedback and continued support --

-- Christina

Is there a reason why we have to choose the category first? Partway down the page where we can edit the category, can it be set up so we choose the category there and then edit if we wish to add the specifics if we have an auction that requires those?

I don't think Auctionwatch understands the problem this has caused everyone.

I am unable to start a listing with a catagory number. I would have to throw in any old number get to the next page and then edit my catagory after I've attached a picture so I can visualize what it is I am listing. You gave steps 1,2,3 but you forgot step 4 on the new plan. Step 4 edit your catagory again after you've seen a picture of what you're selling.

You are not saving us any steps you are adding to them. You are not saving us time you are creating more difficutly.

It would help if on the second page if when we edit our catagory number we could just type it in instead of having to click through to another page. But wait that's the way it used to be....

Shame on you Auctionwatch for rebuking fetish...he's just being more vocal then the rest of us but I imagine he speaks for the majority of the users.

Netscape is my browser. Since this new listing process came about, when I click on "create new listing" or "pending" everything freezes! I would sure appreciate some advice.
Thanking you in advance.

Davidsmom: It froze for me, too. I hit "reload" and it then worked. But. . . of course, that's one more click! And a few seconds more of waiting. Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I honestly thought AW was immune from all those changes just for the sake of changes (like Ebay). And I haven't seen or heard any complaints whatsoever on these boards about item specifics being a problem for those who need them. NOT ONE.

This is the angriest I've been at technology in a very long time.

I'm not trying to cause problems, but I'm curious about some of the complaints. I don't understand how you don't know what you're listing until you upload your pictures? Don't you have some idea what you are about to list before you start (and have a mental picture in your head)? I think people have been saying that it's mostly in the collectables are, and I don't really list in that catagory, so maybe that's why I don't get it.

ihula, those were my thoughts exactly. I just don't understand how you can't determine what category an item you're selling goes into without seeing the picture. When I sell an item, I know exactly what it is and where it goes. Seems rather odd to me. Perhaps Fetish can explain it?

I hate to be a pill, and most of you can attest I rarely post but I am afraid that I agree with thse who dislike this new system. Why? Because I try to list as generally as possible. IBUY on eBay and many is the item I have bought that ws not what I was originally looking for--but close. With this new system I won't get thos browsers when I list.

I always do my researce on ebay before listing ( and I do list in multiple categories) so I know were I am going to list my item and I look at the item while I am listing it so adding the picture later isn't a big deal. I have no prefrence to either way both are simple. Don't make a mountian out of a mole hill.
