My TOS says payment by 14 days. On day 14 I did the NPB alert. Nothing from buyer. On day 9 after NPB, I get a personal check. The written out on the line amount was crossed out twice and re-written. It may or may not have been initialed in one place. My bank refused deposit. Well they said I could but it would probably be rejected (bounce fee). I'm going to send it back to the buyer. No good to me. I want my fees back and I want to relist it. The problem is that I can't change the reason for the FVF request. Should I care?
Thanks...

I wouldn't care...anyone should know that a check that has been defaced anywhere in the amount or signature part is void...make sure you write void across it in big letters before sending it back..both front and back across your signature.

I guess the question is do you do the FVF as a non-paying bidder, or do you do it for some other reason that doesn't count as a strike against their bidding history? I would say contacting them one more time would help you resolve that question, but I honestly can't think of an explanation that they could offer you that would make any difference. THe only thing I can think of is that they didn't realize that checks have to be carefully written, but sheesh, that's pretty basic stuff. They had to have realized that check couldn't be honored.

Thanks. I wrote a semi-sarcastic letter, voided the check (made copies)and am sending it back. I'm going to block the ID and e-mail billing@ebay for the FVF.

Forget the letter. Just adds fuel to the fire as the person on the other end is likely not honest and may take further steps to "make themselves right" if you make them wrong yet again. A sarcastic letter may make you "feel good" but can make a bad situation worse. It can kind of retroactively make them say, "oh, I see the seller was an a__hole like I thought all along. Let's see what else I can do to get a rise out of them". You're just promoting further trouble for yourself.
Block him as a bidder, block his email, NPB, FVF, don't worry about reason. It was the correct reason at the time you filed. Neg with facts only, and expect a retaliatory in return. "Warning. Non-paying bidder. Sent altered check" should do nicely. Unemotional shows you have a cool head to prospective bidders. When he leaves his neg feedback for you, hope he is a hothead. Anyone with any smarts will see the difference between your neg to him and his to you.
Spend as little time on this as possible and move on fast.

NO!
Tear the check up and forget about this "winner". I would not waste a stamp on this clown. Block and move on.
