Hi, all. This is tooooo weird. My very last auction item, launching tonight, received an error message which said there was "an improper word in the title or description." I must have searched for several minutes. Four-letter words? Nope. Porn? Nope. Down the checklist. Nope, nope, nope.

Finally, in desperation, I changed a sentence that read "Great gift idea for the wine aficionado, like Dad on Father's Day." Took out "like Dad. . . . .etc." and quickly re-scheduled for launching.

It worked.

But TELL ME, FOLKS, with all the creepy scatalogical crap (no pun intended) and sex-related, naughty words etc. listings on ebay, what idiot could have taken offense at my wording?? And is Ebay actually PAYING someone to do this???

Oops. It didn't work! Still getting error message for title and/or description. The title is: "Book: The Grapes of Ralph." This is a legit book and there is one already for sale on ebay! Here is the text of my description. Do you see ANYthing I"ve overlooked that's not nice??? All I can think of is that the word "ralph" in some cultures means throwing up. SURELY that can't be what I"ve done wrong??

"This is a must-see book, an award-winning classic by the artist and illustrator Ralph Steadman, all about wine. It is the 1st American edition, 9 x 12. The book is in gift-quality condition, perfect dust jacket and cloth boards, no damage, pages clean and bright. Hundreds of full-color illustrations, and Glenfiddich cover medallion for winning the food and drink book of the year award. Truly a classic!. Steadman is the well-known artist who worked with Hunter Thompson on "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and "On the Campaign Trail." A great Father's Day gift idea for the wine aficionado.<p>

Witty and irreverent, the book's 224 glorious pages chronicle the cult of wine around the world. It is prefaced with the famous Gregorian Wine Chant. Some of the countries covered are the U.S., Australia, Portugal, Bulgaria, France, Germany. No wine lover should be without this guide and conversation piece.<p>

Media mail shipping in the U.S. will be $2.95; priority shipping and insurance is an option. NO handling charge–ever! E-mail your questions and bid with confidence.<p>"

How could you take out "Ralph" it's in the title.

Changed "aficionado" to "connoisseur." Didn't work.

Just now I changed the title slightly, and, in the description, changed "cult" to "culture," even though "cult is what was on the book's jacket. As in "cult of wine." Do you suppose someone has taken offense to the word "cult"??? Well, we shall see.

Maybe the word WINE?????????

I have no clue. Thought I would try again this week.
I will let you know if I find out anything.

Perhaps ebay thinks you are trying to say Grapes of Wrath and they think you messed it up?

Kiari: I thought of that, too, but. . . if ebay tried to stop auctions because of misspelled words or typos, they'd have total chaos, wouldn't they?!

I suppose it's just possible that they're objecting to the word "wine" (after all, today is a religious holiday!), but good heavens they can't have stopped every auction with "wine" in it, could they?

I went to Rules and Safety, and none of their links is appropriate. Looked at their lists of improper or questionable words and items, and nothing applies to my auction. Darn them, anyway.

What category are you trying to list in? If it's in the wine category, it won't take anything with the word wine in it unless you have the special Ebay clearance to participate in their beta program for listing wines.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

I believe the comparison word like in this part of the title like Dad on Father's Day may be the culprit. Auctions that says stuff similar to just like a Rolex are constantly pulled by ebay so maybe the software disallows the use of the word like in titles?
Could be.

Sparkz, you may well be onto something here! (I fervently hope.) I had double-listed it, in books and also in the Home >Food & Wine >Wine >Unique collections category. I've deleted the latter on your advice (who would've guessed!) and scheduled it immediately. We shall see if this works.

Auctionace: The word "like" wasn't in the title to begin with, only in the description. But even taking it out of the description, it still wouldn't launch.

STOP THE PRESSES! It worked. Thanks so much, sparkz, and thanks to all of you who tried to help me. I love this little community we have here. A virtual chocolate Easter egg to all of you, from Adele.
