I am basically new to the Ebay thing and I am wondering do most of you allow your customers to come up with their own shipping charges or do you go by what the action said? Did I miss something that somebody can point out for me?

Here is what I had in my action:

Shipping:

All items shipped VIA USPS unless otherwise stated. There are various methods I ship through the USPS and is stated in the auction. I mainly ship Priority mail. If insurance is not taken and the item arrives damaged I can not give another item or refund. If I dont have another item I will give a refund of the original purchase price. Shipping is not refundable. Shipping insurance must be requested at or before the payment is received. This is a small price to pay for insuring that you receive the item(s) in the condition I shipped them in.

Shipping & Handling
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
$7.00 USPS Priority

The reason I like priority is that I get free boxes, tape and delivery conformation when paying through the web. The box is 2LB and I am not over charging for shipping or Am I? I just want to avoid this in the future.

Thanks in advance

depends on what you sell, they should read shipping costs before they bid.
7 dollars is a lot of money if the item is under 10.

7 dollars is a lot of money if the item is under 10.

Shipping has nothing to do with the cost of the item, but the weight of the item.

I think the major mistake the seller is making is by telling what shipping method he's using. If they pointedly ask, then you should tell them, of course, but no sense volunteering that information.

Just say $7.00 S&H and leave it at that.

If you want to change shipping methods midstream, that's the seller's call not the buyer's.

HDM - Absolutely do not allow customers to start making up their own shipping costs. You stated the amount in the auction, they bid, it amount to an agreement of your postage as well as a bid commitment.

STOP - which delivery service are you using that decides postage based on cost? I'm considering purchasing a 10 pound cast iron bank for $12.50 and would like to suggest this wonderful service you seem to have found to the seller since the shipping cost is about equal to the purchase price.

Be specific. Just state in your auction.
S/H $7.00 by Priority Mail. Nothing else. Don't tell them why you charge that. It's your business and you can do what you want. If they don't like your S/H then they shouldn't bid...and if they bid and win then they should honor your charges.
I suggest if you have a guarantee then put it in a about me page.

Thanks

I will revise my shipping terms. I knew I came to the right place.

I do have a Warranty policy that goes on each auction.

Here it is. It may cover everything or not.

Warranty:

All Items sold as is and in the condition stated in the auction. All items come with a guarantee against being DOA. This does not include damage incurred in shipping. If insurance is not taken and the item arrives damaged I can not give another item or refund. If I dont have another item I will give a refund of the original purchase price. Shipping is not refundable. The buyer is responsible for return shipping costs. Once damaged item is received I will ship another item or refund the original purchase price.

Thanks again

I ship anything over 3 lbs by FedEx Ground. I never put any shipping costs in my TOS. I say "The cost of shipping will be determined by the weight & buyers Zip Code. I will send this to the buyer as soon as the auction is over." I have had no problem with this since last summer when the PO raised the Priority Mail rates.

Do not offer an insurance option- include the insurance in your shipping price and don't mention it. I do it this way and have not had one complaint.

If you state in your terms that $x is for insured shipping, you wouldn't believe the buyers that will want to subtract the $x for insurance and tell you to not insure it.

Also, your term about not being responsible for damaged/lost goods that are uninsured will not hold water for a credit card transaction.
