I have a dental chair with light I want to list. I just don't know what kind of shipping or what mode of shipping to use. There has to been some kind of trucking co. locally that would work for it.
Does anyone out there ship big heavy items like this? What kind of shipping is best?
Will a shipping company pack and box it for you?
Thanks in advance.

Paws

PS how do you place a photo you have hosted on Vendio with your message. I tried [img src=] but didn't work.

IU have no idea of where you live, but there 2 options. one is by moving van company such as Mayflower. You may be able to ship without having to crate it. The other is by a mtr.ght line who does LTL (less than full load). In that case you will have get it crated. You can do this yourself or hire it done. I just shipped an antique dresser to ny son in IL from here in CA. I ha 2 men who do handyman jobs do it, It cost me $120.00 labor & materials. The shipping was over $500.00, so it isn't cheap.

Thanks Sanmar----

I just called a Pack & Mail and they can do it but as you said it isn't cheap. Freight would be around $300-$400 plus to crate it will be around $150. I don't know if its worth it or not to list. I have tried to sell it locally but haven't had any luck.
I can list it locally with eBay and maybe someone in my area will buy it so they can pick it up. I live in West Texas so I am central but South US.
After I posted this I saw where someone else had ask the same thing. Sorry.

If this is a bother for you I would list it with the term that the buyer has to pick it up. If you go this route make sure you are paid up front and a time limit in your tos as to how long they have to come and get it.

You do not want to be a free warehouse for anyone. If you decide to ship just look up a few trucking firms and get a cost rundown. You may get lucky if they are doing a back haul and give you a price break. [Just do not count on it]

Good advice here!

And I definitely would list it locally with a time limit for pick up.

www.freightquote.com
I have used them several times.
235 lbs from WI to CT was $76.

I have heard that sometimes you can send heavy items via Greyhound bus. Someone has to drop it off and pick it up at the Greyhound station however.

Yeah, Grey hound does ship for reasonable prices. But on the Greyhound bus, a dental chair would not fit in the storage compartment under the side of the bus. The freight goes in the luggage area.

Have you thought about selling it privately to someone who collects this type of thing? You might do a Google search on "dental collectibles" or something along those lines. I did a quick search and came up with www.medicalantiques.com -- just one of many such sites, I am sure. There are a lot of people collecting stuff like this. Someone who needs it for their collection might be willing to fork over the shipping costs. Just a thought.
