I know this topic has been discussed many times before but I post feedback after recieving payment. I just always have. Well lesson learned.

I just got a neg from someone who wasnt pleased. It clearly stated in the auction what the item was. The thing is I would have refunded to the guy because I thought it went to high. He never even asked just gave me the neg. Of course I had already left positive for him.

All because he did not read the auction where his gripe was mentioned not once but twice.

Oh well I just sort of needed to vent. But I stand firm that I will never leave feedback first again. I am sorry but had I not I would have negged the guy.

You can still leave a response under the bidders feedback. Just state that there was no contact with you to let you know if there was a problem.

just keep teling yourself at least you have the payment, that should help. This kind of bidder I would block so they can not bid on your stuff again.

Would be nice if poeple learned to read, but they do not. Not much you can do about it besides move on.

The deal is not over till they have their stuff and not before.
Every seller should do what they feel works the best for them as there is no right or wrong way of doing this.

It's not over til they have their stuff and leave feedback. Then I reciprocate.

I don't care whether they leave FB or not, but if they don't leave FB, then I don't.

As a buyer I have quit leaving feedback unless it is a negative... makes life more simple

Well, I went and cooled down then left a response to his feedback stating simply that it was in the auction and bidder never contacted me.

I also sent him a very polite email just letting him know in future dealing lots of times problems can be resolved by contact. I was VERY polite. I am so proud of myself because I really felt like ripping him one.

I keep telling myself feedback is not that important and no I should not take it personally. BUT, I do take great pride in my work and I feel I work pretty hard.

I guess it would be different if he had actually had something to complain about. I mean short of repeating every line of the description 10 times in bold print I dont know what to do to make myself clear.

It's a good decision not to leave feedback first. I am sure they saw the positive, and figured you could not do anything in return.

Exact same thing happened to me a year ago. Very frustrating. Hard to let it go when you work so hard. I too would have refunded had they contacted me. I only leave feedback if the buyer does anymore.

Anymore even after the transactions complete some people wait a month, tell you don't like the item and when you don't give it to them for free they give you bad feedback. I had one lady tell me that the singer on her Barbara Mandrell CD wasn't Barbara Mandrell and she didn't like it and wanted to trade for something she liked better.

Okay, now I am trying to be adult about this and just ignore the guy but he just emailed me a nasty email and it is getting harder.

To explain a little more in depth, I sold him an illustration from a book. There is no text on the back and it is done on a thick paper that is suitable for matting. I have sold hundreds of these with no problems. I state in my auction "It was taken from a book."

Now maybe I am wrong but this guy is upset because he received a page from a book. I emailed him and showed that in the description it states "It was taken from a book."

This guy says that I should have stated it is a page from a book and that because I didnt I am a "deceptive, dishonest seller who will be turned into ebay for misrepresentation."

I assume that the taken means a page, but maybe I am wrong. No one else has ever complained so I thought that maybe this guy is just complaining but he has never left anyone else anything but praise.

If anyone has any advice, if possibly I listed it wrong, please let me know as I have many more to list and want to make sure I dont have this problem again.

Thanks for everyones help. You guys are great!

People are idiots and often times illiterate (even if you spell it out six times in 48 point bold print).

Just have to deal with it and move on...

I buy and sell. As a seller I leave feedback first, as a buyer I leave positive feedback if the seller has already done so.

I see some sellers that make up their feedback policy of never leaving feedback first because 1 buyer in 1000 was a problem and I question the logic in that tactic. I gear my policies to the 999 buyers, but others gear them to that 1 buyer.

uaru: I used to agree with you policy...up until about 18 mos ago when a new influx of Venusians & Martians invaded the ranks of feeBay bidding-dom!

When I started out 3 yrs ago, I always left POS FB first for my bidders & had no problemos! BUT...lately, the mental-quality of a fair number of newbie bidders is just plain down-right scarey -- NTM nasty!

So.....I now hold the FB "hostage!" (I love when sanctimonious pretzel-chokers call it that!). This is the ONLY protection I have with FRUITO-NUTZOS! It encourages them to at least CONTACT me first if they have a question or concern with their purchase!

I am religious in reciprocating, but I will no longer AUTO-POS with the FB just because a bidder paid -- that is NOT THE ONLY ASPECT of the transaction!

I'm with you tomwiii, it is a lot more than just getting a negative feedback occasionally. For some reasons buyers care about feedback, and I want to exploit that. Since I switched my policy (also about 18 months ago now I think) I have had a whole lot less hostility from customers. Besides saving myself from a few negatives, I probably have changed the way customers deal with me because they realize if they don't try to work things out, there might be a negative waiting for them. I've had a total of ZERO complaints from customers since I switched, and my total feedback is over 3000 positive, so I don't really care if people are not leaving me feedback. I state quite clearly on my invoice that I have automated the system (mostly automated, vrane.com used to work better) and that they will be given positive feedback automatically if they give it first. It works for me...

In my WBN and on the packing slip I have a statement that reads:
"I will leave feedback once I am assured that you have received your ???? and are satisified. The best way to accomplish this is by posting positive feedback (then a direct link to my feedback) if there are any problems, please contact me."
I got this idea here at the Ebay Outlook over a year ago and it seems to be working fine.

I agree, I always used to leave feedback when payment arrived. Then I had a couple of people who never told me that they were unhappy with their purchases, and just left negative feedback, I would always refund payments to non-satisfied buyers, but they didn't even give me the opportunity. Now, I wait until I know that the item is received. I don't wait until feedback is left for me, sometimes people just let me know it has arrived and they are happy with it, but never leave feedback, in that case, I immediately leave them feedback.

Seller reciprocation of feedback does work. When Vrane's return positive feedback feature was free, I used it and had virtually zero issue with random acts of negative feedback.

You guys have been great and I actually feel a little better. The nasty sting is going away. I have learned a valuable lesson about ebay. I really liked some of your ideas and think I will try them.
