There is much discussion about the upcoming new BIN function everywhere but here ...
Any thoughts on the new BIN tactic by ebay?

============

***Coming Soon: Optional Immediate-Payment Method for Buy It Now Items***

In the next two weeks, we will introduce a new payment option that provides buyers with a convenient, retail-like purchasing experience. It also helps reduce the likelihood that a Buy It Now item will be ended by a buyer who does not intend to pay, making it unavailable to a buyer who really wants it.

If the seller chooses to use this payment option, buyers will see a notation next to the Buy It Now button stating that the seller requires immediate payment. After clicking the Buy It Now button, the buyer will be asked to complete payment through PayPal, which handles credit cards, PayPal funds, and other instant payment methods. Once the payment is confirmed, the listing will officially end. Until a buyer completes the payment, the listing will continue to run.

This feature will initially appear in the Tickets & Experiences categories (where payment is often time-critical) and the Media categories: Books, Movies & Television, and Music (where the demand for retail-like convenience is high).

This option can be applied by sellers on a per-item basis to listings with Buy It Now and to Stores items. Sellers who choose to require "immediate payment" must have a PayPal Premier or Business account so they can accept credit card payments. Shipping and all other costs must be provided when the item is listed so that buyers know exactly what to pay without having to wait for seller instruction.

Bin.... I like the idea with the pay now when they bid. About time ebay did this. Im sure that a lot of good bidders who would pay right away on a bin, but there are those that use that feature to just lock up an item and then drop out of sight for weeks.

I have had bidders do just that. One would think that if they used bin that they want it shipped faster, but this was not always the case. Its a move in the right direction.

auctionace, thanks for posting that. It's a good idea for those who want to sell things quickly, especially if they want to get some fast cash.

I've also had bidders use BIN and then take their own sweet time about paying.

But it could maybe be a step in the direction where ebay will accept PayPal payments only for all auctions? I have a suspicious mind.

I've wondered about stuff like that since ebay bought PayPal. It always occured to me that the Justice Department would possibly step in and say that ebay was getting an unfair advantage over other payment systems by making it's own propietary payment system the only acceptable payment scheme.
I've always thought that that was why PayPal backed out at the last minute the deal with AuxPal or the now Bidville Auction.

Amazon accepts other payment systems then just PayPal ( no echecks from PayPal accepted either ). Also on Amazon when an item is in a shopping cart I believe that other buyers are temporarily blocked from buying it but that will not be the case on ebay.

Amazon One Click payment system is just a basic credit card or echeck isn't it? Ebay owns PayPal and that is a whole new ballgame.

I for one am eager to try this. Most of my eBay listings are fixed price items, and I still have to wait a week or two for payment from some poeople.

Buy it NOW, Pay it NOW. Not next week.
