Anyone catch the commerical for Finding Nemo with the three fish in the tank?

Nemo: I'm from the ocean
Fish 2: Joe's Fish Mart
Fish 3 : EBAY!

Now come on Disney - you can't sell live animals on eBay.......

I believe that ebay clears all of the ebay mentions before allowing the use of their name.

There was an article about how much companies like Coca-Cola pay to have their product seen in a movie. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that ebay paid big bucks to Disney to have the their name used in the movie.

Auction - I was not really upset - I actually thought it was kinda cute.

Everyone would think it's kinda cute. If I was ebay I'd pay Disney at least $100,000 for the mention.

That's how businesses and products become super mainstream. Kleenex and Jello are common products and company names.

Ummm, you don't eBay's permission to user their name. There are certain things you can't do with eBay's name (use it to sell a competing product, for example), but using the word "eBay" in a movie doesn't require eBay's prior permission. Studio lawyers might ask for it to be on the safe side. Like in "Castaway," they asked for permission to use FedEx, but that included all their logos, and was central to the story. And AOL asked AOL to use the phrase, "You've got mail," for that movie, since it prominently featured AOL logos and such. But just mentioning a company doesn't require permission.
