In a previous thread, it is mentioned that a good way to MARK items is with an ultraviolet ink pen. My question, are there items that should not be marked with one of these? Does it leave any unacceptable marks on a collectible item? Can it be used on everything? I have never in my 3 years on eBay, run into someone who tried to pull a switch, but whenever I have an expensive item I always hope all goes well.

Thanks in advance.

i dont have an answer to your question, but my question is -even if seller marks the item and buyer played switch-a-roo,so what??
this becomes a he said/she said situation and if buyer paid with credit card ,she could always do a chargeback.since she has already returned the item, the seller will lose the chargeback, switch a roo or no switch a roo.

Well I guess considering I do not take Credit Cards thru PayPal that would not be a problem for me. If they want to use CC then they can use BidPay.

I was just asking about the pen because it was brought up in an earlier thread, and I was curious about it as I had never heard of it in particular. I had heard of marking items but never really gave it any thought.

Thanks for your thoughts stopwhining, if I did take CC then that would be a problem. I think most people who would attempt something like that may be deterred by it though. But then again...maybe not.

First of all, it is invisible unless held under a black lite. I would think if the object to be marked is glass, pottery, metal or any non-porous material, there would never be a problem. Any ink solvent would remove it.

There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

Years from now there will be collectors items in museums, libraries,
and high dollar antique shops with the only real claim to fame being the
UV tick mark from some famous person who also sold stuff on Ebay.

The ultraviolet pen that I have is called a "Branding Pen". The site that I got it from is no longer up, but you can find them at:http://www.fingerprintpen.com/Sales.htm

I think I heard, a long time ago here, that the pens were being used on items that had "high switcharoo" tendencies--that is, things like CDs - things that boys and young men buy, for example. Things that people have a broken one of, buy yours, claim it arrived broken, keep yours.
