I've had this statue, if you can call it that, for as long as I can remember (at my age that would be about 5 years). She was originally purchased for $1 at an estate sale. The seller couldn't tell me anything about it at all. It's now time to get rid of her and clean out my house. Problem is, I have no clue as to what she is supposed to be. She's 9" tall and weighs 5 lbs. I've been using her as a door stopper because of her weight. Any ideas? Anyone? I know she's ethnic - maybe Hungarian? Russian? Cement? Clay? I want to make sure I list her correctly.

not sure what it is but it should be eastern european, it is customery to offer bread and salt as welcome and she seems to be holding bread and has sort of a costume on...
sorry cant help you more, just my opinion
however I think that this is not factory made, just someones design, I used to make
stuff from clay and have it glazed and the inside always looked "unfinished" like this one.

It looks like a Terracota figure and it looks like Portuguese. There are terracota figures of that color in Portugal. But I'm not an expert. -- Jose

Thanks, guys. I thought it might be cement because it has that grey cement color inside. But, that makes no sense at all. Guess more research is in order. I agree that it probably is eastern european. Well, I'll just be happy to get $10 for her. I've stubbed my toe on her more times than I can count and she's too heavy to trust on my glass shelves. I do love her plump face and pug nose, though. And it does look almost like she has something in her other hand.
