Hi,
I was just cruising around ebay looking for diamonds at a good price when I came across this auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2636067640&category=10217As far as I can tell they expect people to bid for a password to their website so that they can buy the merchandise off ebay. I think that $35 is bit steep for emailing a password. They also expect bidders to believe that the prices on their website are cost price. So that the bid price is the only profit the seller makes. SUURREEEE! Has anyone seen this auction type before? I wonder how long before ebay pulls it.
Cheers,
Adrian

I guess I don't understand auctions like this one. Ebay will not allow us to link to a store front in Vendio but they will let sellers like this sell from a Brick and Mortar store in their town. Address, phone number are included in their auction, but one mention of a Vendio store and eBay finds out, and out we go.
Is this fair?....

You are bidding on a chance to purchase whichever one (1) Certified Loose Diamond you would like at its True Wolesale Price. You will be given access to one of the worlds largest diamond inventory databases with over 38,000 certified loose diamonds to choose from. You will be able to view the certificates for each and every diamond. We use GIA, EGL, PGS, HRD, AGS and IGI. You may only purchase one diamond per auction.

It's should be ebay illegal. Most ebayers either don't know or don't care and never report questionable auctions so the auctions can go on for several months.

I was reading his feedback and he was a buyer for quite some time or at least until he got his feedback over the amount of the shades, then started to do this. I guess I don't understand. Ebay jumps on the little guy (ironking) and lets this go by. I am sure eBay never reads an auction unless someone complains and thats to bad. I guess that is why the say they are just a venue.

Looking at the kinds of sellers he was bidding on ... lots of get-rich-quick schemes etc. Very odd esp. for someone who claims to be an "one of the worlds largest Diamond Importers and Manufacturers." (How do you manufacture a diamond anyway?)

He's running two kinds of auctions, the password one and Diamonds And Fine Jewelry Opportunity. I have some experience in this area and I KNOW there are claims in the second listing that ain't true. Very fishy all the way around.

This is a scam, pure and simple! I would not think that this is allowed under ebay. Should be turned in.

Attention Ebay Police: The afore mentioned website has had its shopping cart disabled for the duration of the auction. Its contants will only be able to be viewed by potential bidders to determine if this something they would like to bid on.

Hi msincognito,
(How do you manufacture a diamond anyway?)
Well here is a shocker. some months ago I found a company in the US that cremates your loved ones for you when they pass on. Then they take the accumulated carbon(ashes) and make them into a diamond. The prices were from around $4000 for a small one to around $25000 for 1Ct one. There was a choice of 3 colours if I remember right and they had a jewellery design service so that you could keep your loved one really close. I can't remember the URL though. Sorry to get off topic but you did ask, msincognito.
Cheers,
Adrian

PS. I found their web site again. It has a section that tells you how they perform the process. http://www.lifegem.com/ [ edited by zircon4 on May 22, 2003 03:02 PM ]

Msincognito,
Diamonds can also be manufactured from ordinary carbon. eg, graphite, charcoal. I was just taking an interesting? side trip with the previous post. I do not think they are selling people diamonds. lol

Adrian
