From AuctionBytes:
"A new photo will appear at the top of the page if the seller uploads a photo to the first (free) iPIX photo."

Does this mean sellers are required to use iPIX in order to have a photo inserted top left of eBay's new (July) auction format page?

I clicked "see this item in eBay's new look for this page" on auctions using various photo services. Only those using iPIX had the photo showing on top.

I love the ease of AW/V and don't plan to change to iPIX, but certainly would like having a photo at top of my auction pages. Am I reading this correctly or is there an option to place other photo service pics at top? I'm confused

beachbound here only...

An extensive discussion of the new format on another board revealed that a seller can substitute the ipix photo for one of their own.
My theory on this is that ebay is trying to make the third party auction submission companies have to jump through so many hoops that they will lose most of their clients which will use ebays own auction submission paid for services.

I use html in my auction descriptions and can put my photos (uploaded to my website host) anywhere I want.

Capo - the photo position they are referring to is not in the description area where your html is placed. If you look at the preview of ebays new page look you will notice that there is a photo slot now in the top area. That is the one they are referring to.

Here's the offical lowdown

*************

-- A new photo will appear at the top of the page if the seller uploads a photo to the first (free) iPIX photo.
-- New bid and Buy It Now buttons have been added to the top of the page. These buttons take users to a new page where they can enter a bid and/or a quantity. A bid box also appears at the bottom of the Item Page.
-- Better notification of your bidder/buyer status on the page. For example, users will be alerted on the Item Page if they are the current high bidder, or if they have been outbid.
-- Seller tools such as Revise Your Item will be shown only to the seller when they are signed in.

The scheduled switchover is planned for early July in the United States. After the switchover, the old page will no longer be available.

Please note:

-- "Watch this item" is not activated in the preview. It will work correctly after the switchover.
-- No changes have been made to the Description area, but HTML within the Description will no longer affect the rest of the page.

-- For sellers who would like to have a photo appear at the top of the page, you will be able to use the Revise Your Item form to upload a photo to the first iPIX location. There will be no charge for this.

-- HTML will no longer be allowed in the Location field because of its placement on the page. It is important that sellers enter a city and state in the location field, as buyers tell us this is critical information.
-- TurboLister will continue to function normally with the new look.
-- When the switchover happens, bidders and buyers will be brought back to the Item Page to see their bid or Buy It Now confirmation. This will not happen during the preview period.
-- The preview is not compatible with WebTV, but the Item Page will be accessible with WebTV when the switchover happens in July.
