Is there not a freight mover conglomerate website where truck companies bid to move your bigger items from here to there? ... i have a CratersAndFreighters auction [hopefully!!!] 'going' for the first time ... i ended up saying, in my auction descrip, that i would have the bidders use them, [but we've never used them before! hope it all works out nicely] ......... i had googled to find what company to use and ended up with C&F but I thought there used to be a frequently used company for ebay auction items, where you plugged in your info and various shipper contractors would bid to 'do' the item ..... did i just dream that? ...

Contact the reps at www.recover-itt.com, they have agents all over the country that will pick up, pack and ship larger items.

Hi,

This doesn't really address the original question but you might call Roadway.

I had a desk & hutch on eBay. They gave me a quote of around $300 from California to Detroit, another of $250 to Stanford, CA, which is maybe 200 miles from me.

I never actually used them, though. Happily my winning bidder is semi-local and is picking up his desk.

Hi all ... well, I'll be calling the 2 Craters and Freighters in my state tomorrow and will report back ... It looks "promising" .... ... ... ... earlier today i got a quote from an online moving freight group that was running approx. 1/2 of C & F quotes [craters and freighters.com], BUT they would not pick it up uncrated/unpackaged [and c&f WILL pick it up, supposedly, and package it well and ship it to customer ] ...... we shall see ... i hope this is a smooth operation ... i have a LOT of antique furnishings i would do this way if it works out smoothly ....

Ain'tRichYet inOhio But MaybePretty Soon?! LOL

WARNING! USING FREIGHT COMPANIES!!!

Back in the early to mid 90's I worked as a Collections Specialist for Phoenix Advisors in Jacksonville, Florida. Phoenix worked for the Trustee who was handling the bankruptcy for PIE (Pacific Intermountain Express) Freight Company.

The Federal Bankruptcy Judge deemed that the sales reps for PIE had given illegal discounts to customers for freight shipments, sometimes up to 90% off of the competitive rates. The Trustee had Phoenix immediately begin collections on millions and millions of freight bills from the previous 4 years (within the statute of limitations). Basically, Phoenix went back and started billing all of their customers the amount of the discount that they were given illegally. It was my job to follow up on those bills, and field the millions of phone calls from angry customers and businesses who felt they were duped into something, and they shouldn't have to pay again. I was amazed at how many businesses would just send in checks for $100,000+ without even calling to see if it was legitimate. I can tell you that Phoenix raised several millions through collections and litigation until they were ordered to stop after about 3 years. In the process, the Trustee got rich, bomb threats were common place, and I moved on to college.

The moral here is... If it sounds too cheap for shipping, you may get burned in the end. BEWARE of freight companies that promise the world for next to nothing.

Wow.... wow ... wow! ... I am SO thrilled with my conversation for my most local Craters and Freighters company .... for my area they have free pick-up; they then take it back to their terminals and package professionally and get it to your customer .... she suggests that within your auction listing, you have your potential bidders call them directly thru their toll-free lines, to get their own quote, and then winning bidder deal with them directly as to payment for s/h/i and arranging the set up for delivering ... how cool is THAT?! ... customer sends or paypal's you ending bid, c&f picks up at YOUR place, and its responsibility/liability is out of your hands ... methinks i'll get into throwing business their way, like real soon ... if you go to cratersandfreighters.com website, they will let you know which terminals are in your area and whether or not there is free pick-up for your vicinity .... heck, more importantly, i'll try to post an update to you after i've used them a few times... hopefully i'll be too busy counting our money LOL .... my local expediter was SO nice and SO informative, and SO enthusiastic about their services, that it makes me psyched ... so hey you NE Ohioans on this board ... get a hold of Renee at the Brookpark Rd. Cleveland station and get busy with a great affiliate to move your "big" items along ...

p.s. added to mention ebay services were REAL slow and sometimes inaccessible many times today, since the wee hours of the morn

Please wait until you get the final bill before you get "too" thrilled.
