Pretty Wonderful.

Something like 60 cents per $100, but the $100 is cummulative.

This can insure 20 $5.00 items for 60 Cents.

Other insurances charge by the package instead of by the total, so if it was $1.20 for the first $50 and you had 20 packages for $5.00 your insuarance costs would be around $24.00 instead of 60 Cents.

This is good for those people who send the extra money for insurance on a cheap item, which is just about useless, but if you do not go to the Post Office and stand in line and do the paperwork they are mad and want their money back, even if you personally insured the safe delivery and would have refunded had they said anything was a-miss.

Are you sure about that gousainc? I just started using it a few months ago, and everything that I've read about it certainly suggests that their rates are per package and not cummulative.

I was hoping someone would jump in and confirm whether or not it is cumulative.

If you have been using it for several months, do you pay a minimum per package, or how do you figure out how much to pay?

Hopefully I am right and this thread just saved you a ton of maney.

I hate to burst your bubble but it's a per package charge not cummulative.

You are not bursting any bubbles on my part. I appreciate your response.

I should ask you since you must know, how do you fill out your paperwork for the U-Pic service?

Do you assume a minimum amount per package, or ????

When I send in the paperwork, it asks what dollar value I have insured.

Let's say I sent 20 packages at insured value of $10 each. How much do I pay U-pic if my rate is 60 Cents per $100 value?

Thanks!

Mike

I may need to qualify my insurance statements.

If you buy your insurance with U-Pic online, or one package at a time, you probably do pay per package.

I use Endicia postage software, and with my service, I pay cumulative for a total value of all packages. It is considered an offline program.

If you buy your insurance online, then it would most likely be not cumulative, but by package.

So, it pays to use Endicia and do it cumulatively instead of per package.

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

I also use Endicia and buy my insurance offline. I fill out the U-Pic Excel template with an auction or invoice number for each package that I insure, as well as the date shipped, the declared value (sale price of item plus shipping cost), whether or not I use delivery confirmation, and the overall cost.

I would guess that your packages are not insured in the manner that you think they are based on how you must be sending in your paperwork and payments.

Back to the original poster of this thread - I think U-Pic is wonderful. Of course I haven't had a claim with them yet but I don't see where that would change my mind. The combination of lower cost and not having to go to the post office for the few packages I have to insure has been absolutely worth it to me.

I fill out the excel spread sheet also. I send the spread sheet as an attachment once a week and when the month ends.
I'd rate U-PIC a whole lot higher than the insurance the USPS offers.

I am sure fxgal now understands all the outs and ins of upic ... those who "answered" the question certainly don't seem to.

The whole insurance thing is a big waste of time. Just pay via Paypal or CC and don't worry about it.

I self-insure my packages if the buyer wants to pay for it.
