I need a shipping alternative. The box will be approx 32 x 32 x 32, which is too large for standard USPS, Fed Ex, or UPS.

Any suggestions on an alternative?

Are you sure FedEx Ground won't take it? I have shipped many dish pacs which are 18x18x28 with no problem. They may charge a surcharge for oversize package.

if it's not too heavy, try taking it to the Post Office and ask how much it will cost to ship it, don't just rely on the online calculator. I have shipped things that were oversized but they charged me a much cheaper rate at the window (they don't measure it).

It might work to just ship it by fedex ground. I shipped one once that was a little over size and it didn't have any problems.
You can always use Fedex fright but it is expensive.

I have done the Greyhound thing and also another bus line the name of which I can't remember (Roadways? something like that?)

I shipped a bentwood rocker that way once (disassembled, but it was still about 43 inches long) and it arrived just fine.

What about cargoreservations.com? I know they're associated with Vendio, has anyone tried using them?

I just checked with FedEx Ground and they will ship a box 32X32X32. Now they do charge at the 168 LB Rate class for a box this big.

This looks like the largest box they will take though.

Hope this helps

I would take it to the Post Office first. I think you'll get your cheapest rate there. And, yes, I agree - don't use the online calculator. I've had it give me wrong postage more than once. One time it even tried to tell me a customer's address was all wrong. Poor guy, I emailed him a couple of times to confirm his address. He finally thought it was funny that the PO was telling him he doesn't live where he knows he does. Took the package to the PO and sure enough the address was perfectly fine.

USPS is good. I have also found that on oversized packages they often do not surcharge. UPS never seems to miss if it is oversized and charge me for it. If I have a very large but light item (under 5 lbs) I now will ship it USPS.
