This will be my last question (for awhile) about "treasures in the boxes from my friend" saga..Promise! There were 2 porcelain plates that do not have names on the bottoms...only painted numbers. Any help in identifying (maker/pattern/dates) will be so appreciated I'll loan you my first-born son! 4 Photos follow...The first is a large (11 1/2 inch diameter) hand-painted peach design plate. It has a curvy rim and extensively worn gold trim. The marking on the back is shown in the 2nd photo. The last plate (photos 3 & 4) is a nubbly-type cream-colored porcelain. Has purple leaf design and worn gold trim This one measures 10 inches in diameter. Marks on the back look like an inscribed #3 and painted #18. Thanks, in advance, for any help OR information where I could look.

I'm not convinced the second one is porcelain (and maybe not the first one, either).

To save time: do you know the difference between porcelain and pottery?

fluffy - not that this has anything to do with this post, Im just glad I caught you.

I posted a question for you on a previous thread, but since the thread died, I don't know if you saw it.

Here's the link. Since you had so many snack sets, it's regarding that.

Hi Fluffy...I'm pretty sure I know the difference between pottery and porcelain...at least in a "non-expert" way...Basically (and if I'm wrong, please let me know), porcelain is translucent...pottery is thicker and opaque. I'm sure there are lots of other differences (and one of the real benefits of this board is having the opportunity to be "educated"and I do sincerely appreciate all the experts who take the time to help out with questions)...The "peaches" plate is, I'm pretty sure, porcelain while the other one is probably pottery or a glazed stoneware. Thanks for any information as to maker/dates, etc.

Blueeyes, the second plate is majolica, possibly Italian or French. It might be faience, not pottery. It appears to be 19th century.

The first plate, I have no idea.

Be sure to call the dish the right name. The first dish is a charger. The second dish appears to be a cake or cookie plate.

I edited a misspelling. It is majolica, not magolica.

I am not hotcupoftea on eBay.

Hi and Thanks, "hotcupotea"...I figured the larger one was a charger but was trying to be brief in my post and called both "plates"...Appreciate the info...Haven't come across much majolica in the "treasures" so didn't even think of that! Appreciate your taking the time to help...Thanks again!
