ewora gave this very useful link in another thread...
"Just go to the usps website
http://shiplabel.usps.com/cgi-bin/api/shipping_label.cgi?sampleLabel=0&labelDate=
Fill out this form and it will bring up a shipping lable with your FREE delivery confirmation."
Thanks again to ewora, this free DC (for priority mail, 13c for media...) and professional looking label is the greatest thing since sliced bread!
BUT... you really do need a lazer printer. My inkjet doesn't quite hack it.
AND... taping the label to the package takes three hands, the paper label jumps up to the tape, wrinkles when taping... I think gluing would be better.
That's my question - how do YOU affix the label to your packages? Is there a special magic glue I can use?

Vinnie I don't have a lazer printer and the ones I print are just fine. I even have my printer set on low as not to use to much ink. It works. To affix the label you can get a glue stick and glue it down first or you can use a piece of scotch tape and tape one side. This will keep your label attached to your package so you can tape it fully. I tape the bottom just below the bar code, then I put another piece above the bar code and one above that. That will completely cover the label, the I put a piece on each side. Takes about 2 minutes. I don't cover the bar code. The postal clerk said it would work even if I taped over it but I am not going to try that. Good Luck

I tape mine down, even over the bar code, with no problem. Stretch your tape out over one edge of the label and lower it until the paper grabs the tape, never a wrinkle. My hubby has the same problems you do though.

Sorry vinnie, I use self-adhesive labels.
Got a great deal on 1000 full-page labels at the TRW amateur radio swap meet a couple of months ago.

Why not get a laser printer? I got a Borther HL-1440 recently, I spent less than $200 and am very pleased with it. I finally upgraded after about 6 years with an old HP. Laser printers are cheap these days...
As far as the tape, I use the scotch brand packing tape that holds the tape, and is easy to tear off. Most of the label gets taped, and as someone said, you can tape right over the barcode. I've thought about labels, but it is easier because it would mean I would have to keep switching between paper and labels
If you are sending priority mail you use the whole label and it is free, for anything else you cut the priority part of the label off and the post office will charge you 13 cents.

On Saturday's I stamp up my items and just drop them off at the post office. Can I still use this? I'm wondering if the postal people are going to know to scan it.

It doesen't matter what kind of postage you use as long as there is enough on it.
They scan it just the same as the DC you pay for. When they scan the barcode, it sees that it is eDC and corrects the postage rate.
If you normally don't use any DC and just drop off the packages, you can just do it the same. There is really no reason to have it scanned where you drop it off. (The purpose of delivery confirmation it to confirm that it was delivered)
