this Sharon "Cabbage" Rose dinner plate by Federal Glass has been reverse painted. It belongs to a dear friend who collects this pattern. she said she purchased it about 20 years ago. any opinions would be appreciated.

This could be one of those cases where the plate is worth more without the decoration.

since she collects this pattern, and it is silvered on the back, a very good reverse paint job originally, she was wondering if this could have been some type of experimental piece? she would like to sell it but what you would you start it at?

Hi,

I haven't seen any painted pieces of this pattern. But a lot of depression glass was made as promotional items. The Sharon cheese dish and cover is one example. Could be your friend's plate was also a special or promotional item.

If it were me, I wouldn't try to remove the paint and silvering. Could be a unique piece.

Have you Googled it?

Lucy

lucy, searched on google and found a couple of other patterns painted this way, but not this one.

My friend tends to agree with you about an experimental piece though

I would like to list it for her but have no idea where to start the bidding at.
